Germany - Romantic Road

Medieval towns, quiet country roads, magnificent castles and charming locals set the perfect stage for your weeklong adventure from Nördlingen to Wertheim along Germany’s Middle Age trade route, the Romantic Road.
Dust off your ideas about ancient folklore and saddle up for a rousing visit to Germany's enchanted Romantic Road. You'll be charmed by one of Europe's most beautiful areas, where bustling medieval towns line our route like a string of rare gems. Enjoy quiet country roads and bicycle paths, visit wonderful castles and churches and meet the charming people who bring this region to life.
Day 1: Nördlingen
Begin on the Romantic Road at picture-perfect Nördlingen, renowned for its crooked streets, half-timbered houses, and 14th century town wall. After lunch, we'll make our way through the labyrinth of the old town center, and enjoy a leisurely bike ride in the surrounding countryside. ( L, D)

Day 2: Dinkelsbühl
Coast through small towns, pastures, and fields of sunflowers. The riding is stress-free and the bicycle paths are well marked all the way to Dinkelsbühl. It may have a funny name, but you'll find the colorful village and its people enchanting. (B)

Enjoy the falcon show at the castle in Schillingsfürst before a lovely ride into, Rothenburg, the prize jewel in this string of romantic gems. Crowded and bustling with life, you may believe you are in a traveler's paradise. Where else can you find magnificent cliff side gardens, a wonderfully sinister criminal museum, inspiring artwork and an Internet café all within the town walls? (B, L, D)
Lodging Hotel Markusturm
Description A customs house back in 1264, Hotel Markusturm sits on a picturesque location in a medieval town. Eight centuries later, it has been transformed into a hotel for visitors from all over the world.
Day 4: Rothenburg
Spend the remainder of the day in town, or transfer to the fortified hilltop town of Langenburg to visit the castle and automobile museum and then ride back. Tonight we’ll step back in time as we follow the night watchman and hear tales of the often amusing history of Rothenburg. (B)
