Itinerary

Day 1: Brussels

Arrive at your own convenience in Brussels. Spend the afternoon wandering around and admiring the beautiful buildings, or sitting down on one of the many terraces having a good Belgian beer. Tonight, we'll enjoy a special welcome dinner. (D)

Lodging: Hotel Novotel off Grand' Place

Day 2: Middelburg

Today we will travel to medieval Middelburg, Holland. Savor a bicycle ride amid traditional Dutch windmills and choose to walk around the quaint town center with its onion-domed bell tower and Gothic town hall. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Middelburg

Ancient trade routes lead us past modern windmills, then point west to the coast. Explore the lively beach resorts in Zoutelande and Dishoek and stroll the seaside boulevard in Vlissingen before returning on canal bike paths to Middelburg. (B)

Day 4: Bruges

After a short ferry ride across the Schelde Inlet, cycle atop dunes and dikes along the North Sea coast to the resort town Cadzand-Bad. Heading inland, we'll come to lively Sluis, the perfect spot for lunch and a stroll through the shops. Then it's on to romantic, canal-laced Bruges. (B, D)

Day 5: Bruges

Spend today exploring Bruges' historic gothic tower and magnificent art collections, or take a delightful bike ride south of town. We'll bicycle through the woods on a converted railroad bed, passing castles and stately homes built when Bruges was the wealthy cloth capital of Europe. Tonight, enjoy dinner on your own at one of Bruges' many mouthwatering restaurants. (B)

Day 6: Gent

Bike along canals through woodlands and castle estates to the romantic Leie River in Deinze. We'll follow its gentle flow, passing through green meadows and tiny villages as we head toward Gent. Along the way, we'll stop in Deinze and Deurle, pretty towns with artistic tales to tell. In Gent, be sure to visit St. Bavo church and the renowned Gent altarpiece. We'll savor a wonderful dinner of Flanders' specialties tonight. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Gent (Departure)
