On this New York City walking tour, you'll explore New York’s multicultural heritage in two of its most colourful regions. Explore Chinatown’s markets for exotic vegetables, tea service sets, and other traditional items, as well as current kitsch. Taste traditional snacks and mingle with the locals at a neighborhood bakery or dumpling house. Then travel from China to Italy for an up close taste of New York’s Old Country heritage. Stroll narrow, cobblestone streets beneath the fire escapes of turn-of-the-century tenements and get the scoop on a few mob sites from the past.

Itinerary:
On this New York City tour, you'll start the day on the right foot at one of NY’s oldest Jewish delis and a chance to sample the city’s best knish. During the "Lower East Side" walk, your guide will provide insight into tenement buildings that housed thousands of immigrants.

Although the neighborhood is shrinking in size, Little Italy still holds on to the Old Country heritage that gave rise to one of NY’s most recognized cultures. Strolling narrow, cobblestone streets beneath the fire escapes of turn-of-the-century tenements, explore authentic Italian grocery stores, perhaps taste gelato, and get the scoop on a few mob sites from the past.

NY’s Chinatown offers ample opportunity to meander markets for exotic vegetables, tea service sets, and other traditional items, as well as current kitsch. Taste traditional Chinese snacks and mingle with the locals at a neighborhood bakery or dumpling house. Explore the Chinese influence on NY’s history and culture during the walk of narrow lanes, Chatham Square, and Mahayana Buddhist temple.

This New York City walking tour finishes at the Chambers St subway station, surrounded by impressive architecture of several historic civic structures and fantastic views of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Marty was great! It was a 3 person tour of the LES (Heritage Tour). Marty was very knowledgable and even let us purchase some items at the stops on our tour.

Recently, after we had a Harlem tour, we decided to go for Lower East Side tour and did get disappointed. Both times we had the same guide, Michael Jascz, who is very knowledgeable and dedicated. We enjoyed it both times and learnd a lot about New York history

I can't imagine anyone being more knowledgeable, informed, engaging and personable than Jared, particularly about the neighborhood he knows personally from his own family history. Our Urban Adventure tour exceeded whatever expectations we might have had and we enjoyed the experience very much.

The tour was 4 hours long, longer then we had expected, but was WONDERFUL!! We had just thought it was 2 - 2 1/2 hours. It was lots of slow walking, and the guide gave us SO much information about the locals/history. We had a chance to visit renowned stores we would have otherwise just passed by, it was great! The enthusiasm and knowledge of our guide was astounding, and MUCH appreciated!! The only drawback, and it is small, that our 5 year old daughter had to pay full price. She just didn't have the need/want to learn/know about what us adults were learning, and at 5, won't retain much, it would have been nice to have her go free of charge! The slow pace was hard on our legs because it was such a hot day, and we anticipated being out there for 2 hours, but now that we know, we cannot wait to go on our next tour!! Thanks for all the info and enthusiasm!! It was a great ADVENTURE!

My adult son and I had a fabulous experience with the participants on our tour but most of all, our guide Karen was exceptional. She was extremely knowledgeable and sensitive to the weather, ages of the participants and store owners. My only suggestions is you that you offer the tour at a later hour so people coming from outside the NYC area can participate without hardship. In addition, some of the store owners were not prepared to supply their products due to the hour of the tour.

My New York Heritage tour with Karen was wonderful. Our group was small (7 individuals) and she was knowledgeable in all aspects of being a real New Yorker. I would definitely do another tour with Karen and recommend her to all friends looking for overall New York Heritage experience. Thanks!Karen from Virginia & Sam (New Jersey)

Our guide was very knowledgable and some other group members had kids with them, so our guide adapted very well to their needs as well as meeting ours. It was a very hot day and our guide ensured we were walking in the shade where possible and that we had a few stops on the walk to rest and grab an icecream.

We spent one of our final days of a NYC girl trip touring New York like a local. Karen showed us a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see beyond the tourist destinations. My mom, daughters and I had a truly delightful experience.
