Day 1: Arrive Santa Cruz
Arrive to Santa Cruz. Transfer on your own to the hotel or arrange a private transfer.
Lodging Hotel Arenal
Description Welcome to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia! If you are coming to Santa Cruz for business the Hotel Arenal welcomes you with pleasure. The Hotel Arenal - An entire world of pleasure to achieve good business deeds.
Day 2: Samaipata (B,L)
Travel southwest from Santa Cruz into the Cordillera Oriental and pass the volcanic crater lakes as you make your way with your guide to Samaipata for a full day excursion. Samaipata's Quechua name means "rest in the Highlands" and is home to El Fuerte, hilltop pre-Inca site that inspires much-debated theories. With its giant, carved rock slabs, it is considered to have once been a ceremonial center for an ancient urban settlement, and there have been New Age claims that it was a landing zone for ancient, alien spacecraft.

Day 3: San Javier and Concepcion Jesuit Missions (B,L,D)
This morning, depart with your guide on a four hour drive to San Javier, the oldest mission town in the region. After visiting the city and enjoying lunch, continue for one hour to Concepcion, center for the mission restoration projects. Visit the restored Catedral de Concepcion and the museum that highlights the restoration of the various churches in the region.
Lodging Gran Hotel Concepción
Description The quaint Gran Hotel Concepción is located right on the plaza in downtown Concepción. Lovely antique colonial furnishings create cozy reading nooks in the foyer, or enjoy the minimalist decor of the Jesuit inspired rooms. All rooms open around the courtyard with gardens. Breakfast is included for guests of the hotel.
Day 4: Jesuit Missions of San Miguel, San Rafael, Santa Ana, and San Ignacio (B,L,D)
After breakfast, transfer for three hours to San Ignacio, the current "capital" of the Jesuit missions of the region. Learn the story of how the largest and most elaborate of the original mission churches was demolished and replaced by a modern structure that was destroyed after some hindsight and replaced with a reproduction of the original structure. After lunch, continue to San Miguel to visit one of the most beautiful of Bolivia's Jesuit missions before going to San Rafael, home of the first mission church to be completed among the villages in the circuit. On the way back to San Ignacio where we will overnight and have dinner, stop in Santa Ana. The church in this village is more rustic than the others and provides a good depiction of the original missions with its earthen floor and palm-frond roof.
Lodging Hotel La Mision
Description This cozy hotel, located in the the main plaza of San Ignacio de Velasco, the captial of Chiquitania province. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel are the best preserved Jesuit churches in South America, leading to the unique composition of this hotel, built with columns of carved wood and generous patios to convey the heritage and atmosphere of the old Jesuits.
Day 5: Return to Santa Cruz (B,L)
Return to Santa Cruz with a stop en route in Concepcion for lunch. Connect to an evening international flight, spend extra time in Santa Cruz, visit Noel Kempff Mercado Park, or fly to La Paz to explore the highlands and Lake Titicaca.

The Chalalan was wonderful, amazing they can maintain such high quality so far from civilization. Reasonable Hotel in Santa Cruz but great in Concepcion - amazingly nice place so far from everything. The people at Chalalan are amazing, superb guide Rigoberto, great food and everyone trying so hard and accomplishing so much. They should be encouraged as what they are doing is very difficult but necessary. Mercedes is amazing and her driver Javier the safest we have ever had. She speaks beautiful English, knows everyone in the Mission area of Bolivia and has wonderful insight on the area. I was not very excited about this part of the trip BEFORE we did it but LOVED it. There is much to do there and a nice hotel - the Grand Hotel of Concepcion. I would definitely recommend it. Bolivia is like Costa Rica with more historically interesting things to do, much cheaper and far fewer tourists. We were able to go to the Madidi - amazing more monkeys than I have ever seen. The group there are superb. They are from a local village and have intimate knowledge about the jungle. The guides are smart, speak several languages and can actually call animals and birds to them. The lodging is very nice, appropriately rustic but safe, clean and fun. The food was amazing especially since one is so far from civilization. It was very exciting and a definite must for the jungle lover. The forest is pristine, no garbage - none, the river clean and beautiful. We should support this group as they are t
