RATING
  • Year after year, readers of the top international travel magazines vote Maui “The World’s Best Island,” in large part because Maui boasts sights that satisfy the most demanding adventurers.
  • Here are emerald rainforests and the moon-like vistas of Mt. Haleakala, the rolling Alpine-like meadows of Upcountry and the jagged cliffs and cascading waterfalls of the West Maui Mountains.
  • Not to mention Maui’s sister isle, Molokai, home to the world’s tallest sea cliffs!
  • Yet most of Maui’s magnificent hidden secrets are inaccessible except by air, and nobody knows how to show them to you like Blue Hawaiian.

WHERE TO MEET
This is where you'll start your tour!

Hana/Haleakala

A wonderful exploration of the most popular points of interest on the island!
A wonderful exploration of the most popular points of interest on the island including Haleakala National Park and Haleakala Crater, Manawainui, Oheo Gulch (Seven Pools), Hana town and the Hana Rainforest Preserve, the largest rainforest in the United States. See hundreds of beautiful waterfalls, Keanae valley and the rugged shoreline of East Maui.
  • American Eurocopter EC130 "Eco-Star":
Every seat offers greater personal space, first-class individual seats, and expansive glass for exceptional visibility. This is the world's newest and most expensive model of touring helicopter, and the first specifically designed for air tours. It is utilized by only two companies in Hawaii: Blue Hawaiian and Sunshine Helicopters

The EC130 is also available in a 7-seat configuration to accommodate families.

Note that Sunshine Helicopters has renamed their EC130 "Whisper-Star." The American Eurocopter EC130 is powered by a Turbomeca Arriel 1B engine rated at 848 Shaft Horse Power.
    • American Eurocopter AS350 "A-Star":
Less personal space than the Eco-Star but with a similar open cabin design for 180º views from each seat. Somewhat less viewing glass than the Eco-Star. This model is utilized by the majority of air tour operators in Hawaii, including Blue Hawaiian, Sunshine, Air Maui, Alexair, Makani Kai, Jack Harter, Island Helicopters, Safari Aviation and Hawaii Helicopters.

The AS350 is the most utilized tour helicopter in the world, and all of them look virtually the same. The only significant difference is the type of engine employed. There are four variants of this model:
      • AS 350B2: Used by Blue Hawaiian and Safari Aviation. This is the most powerful model A-Star and is an original manufacturer model. Employs the Ariel 1D1 engine rated at 712 Shaft Horse Power.
      • AS 350BA: Used by Air Maui, Makani Kai, Jack Harter and Island Helicopters. This is an original manufacturer model. Employs the Ariel 1B engine rated at 641 Shaft Horse Power.
      • AS 350FX: Used by Sunshine and Makani Kai Helicopters. This is not an original manufacturer model but utilizes an FAA approved conversion to the Honeywell LTS 101 600 engine rated at 650 Shaft Horse Power. AS 350 AllStar: Used by AlexAir. This is not an original manufacturer model but utilizes an FAA approved conversion to the Allison 250-C30M engine rated at 650 Shaft Horse Power. The cabins in all of these AS350 models are quite similar, but Blue Hawaiian's A-Stars afford increased comfort – with BOSE® aviation-grade noise-cancelling headsets, passenger microphone, inside camera integrated to the live tour video, and more. Safety enhancements for the pilot include a state-of-the-art terrain awareness warning system and emergency pop-out floats to enable safe landing on water.

        Spectacular Views and More!
Kealia Pond: This refuge encompasses 700 acres of natural wetland habitat. The refuge is home to endangered native water birds, and hosts migratory ducks and shorebirds from about October through May. It is adjacent to Kealia Beach, which is a nesting ground for the endangered hawksbill turtle. There is a wonderful boardwalk to view the area, through the mudflats and along the beach.

Kahului's "Dream City" was developed by Alexander & Baldwin in the 1950s and 1960s. This development provided housing for the Company's employees of Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, Maui Agricultural Company and Kahului Railroad (encompassing 28 plantation camps). The original "Dream City" Master Plan called for 1,000 acres for residential lots, 550 acres for streets, 400 acres of parks and schools, 21 acres for commercial use, and 30 acres for churches, cemeteries, public use. Today, the Kahului/Wailuku area is home to over half of Maui's resident population. This is also the only deep water harbor on Maui and most of the good come through the warehouses at this harbor.

The central valley lies between two mountains, East (Haleakala) and West Maui. The largest sugar plantation in the world spreads across the valley floor made possible by an abundance of water carried by irrigation from the slopes of East Maui. This irrigation system was an engineering marvel of the 1800's.

Kula is at the heart of upcountry which encompasses a belt of homes from 1100 - 4000 feet elevation on the western slope of East Maui mountain. Great views from almost any location, upcountry is 5 - 20 degrees cooler than the beach (depending upon elevation).

Haleakala crater is actually an eroded depression with many cinder cones formed by subsequent volcanic eruptions. Haleakala, which means in Hawaiian, "House of the Sun", is the worlds largest dormant volcano. The crater measures 21 miles in circumference, is 3000 feet deep and 19 square miles in area. The entire island of Manhattan could fit inside!
