Morning Up-Country Farm Tour

Sharing Maui's Agricultural Beauty! We love to take care of you and provide a fun, informative tour with plenty of stops for photographs along the way.
We take a scenic ocean view tour through the old town of Paia, then on to Ho`okipa Beach Park for some photos overlooking the magnificent surf. You’ll see the wind-surfing capital of the world and why it is so spectacular… On the bus we’ll provide waters and an assortment of juices and drinks for you. We’ll travel through Pineapple Country for a lush green drive up the slopes of Haleakala towards Kula. Rick will tell you all about that since he grew up in Hali`i Maile which was The Maui Pineapple Company pineapple camp. (He’ll cut a pineapple for you on the picnic) Then we head to Ulupalakua for a wonderful scenic drive and stop at Ulupalakua Ranch Store and Maui’s Winery.

This is a charming old Maui Ranch and you’ll learn about the history of Maui. The Wine tasting room at Maui’s Winery is actually in the King’s cottage. Wines can be sampled and purchased in the beautiful gift store.

We proceed to our picnic lunch. We do it in style with lovely Hawaiian Print tablecloth.

We’ll serve fresh island fruits like pineapple, papaya, bananas, lilikoi, mango, locally grown salad greens and delicious sandwiches and dessert. Choose your sandwich at the time of booking: Turkey-Bacon-Avocado-Aioli, Italian Sub or Veggie sandwich all on Ciabattas created by Whole Foods Kahului Maui. The menu will change depending what is freshest at the time.

After lunch, we’ll stop at beautiful Kula Country Farms where they lease over 180 acres to grow all kinds of vegetables, including corn, beans, lettuce, spinach, peas, artichokes, herbs, pumpkins, tomatoes, zucchini, strawberries (depending on the season) and raise goats and chickens in this most beautiful setting on the mountain. Strawberries can be picked Feb-May. Pumpkins are harvested in September and October. On Mondays, Kula Country Farms is closed so we stop just for photos overlooking the farm after our picnic lunch.

For the grand finale we take you to the magnificent AKL Lavender Farm for a walking tour, shopping and lavender tea.

On a recent trip to Maui my partner and I took the Maui Country Farm Tour and would highly recommend this tour. Our tour guides Marilyn and her husband Rick were not only the perfect guides but wonderful hosts as well. Our tour started with a picnic lunch on the lush grounds of the winery and continued with a tour of the Upcountry farms and lavender fields. We even made a stop to visit a farm stand and purchased some of the best produce I have ever tasted. This was a perfect day and one I would suggest to anyone interested in the non beach parts of Maui and learning about the more than 700 farms that make up the upcountry region.

During our stay in Hawaii, we went on 7 tours, and this was our favorite. It was a small tour, which allowed for intimacy and adaptation of the schedule to our needs. The tour operators have lived on Maui for decades and know the island in great detail. We nibbled our way across the island including a luscious picnic, wine tasting, cheese tasting and tea and scones. We had private/small tours of several farms and enjoyed an array of scenery, with plenty of opportunities to take pictures. Our guides made it memorable by providing us with pictures of the tour and even copies of their books. If you are looking for a personalized tour with attention to every detail, this is it! This tour was entitled: Up Country Photo Tour.

Rick and Marilyn Lopes are fabulous hosts of this magical upcountry farm journey that truly share some of Maui's local treasures. If you've seen enough of the beach and need to explore some of Maui's country side, this gives you the complete experience. Visit local farms, talk story amongst locals and eat locally along the way. I enjoyed learning about the history of Plantation farming from Rick and listening to his stories about how he grew up on maui, a true local boy! Marilyn is such a delight, I am looking forward to bringing family and friends along the next time we get together. This is what makes Maui PARADISE!

My daughter and I had the pleasure to go on a Maui Country Farm Tour and had the best time! We explored milking goats, had a great lunch with fresh fruit and sandwiches and enjoyed a wine tasting experience. We took a lot of pictures, learned about the history of Maui and had a lot of good laughs too! This tour was a great way to share a family vacation and to explore a different side of Maui that many people often miss.

What a fun day it was from start to end. Ho'okipa Beach Park first to see the surfers then pineapple fields, and Maui's only winery where we all had a yummy picnic lunch. Then it was a nice walking tour at Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm and on to meet the goats at Surfing Goat Dairy. We tried at least 6 flavored soft cheeses made on the property. Talk about fresh! Thank you again to Rick and Marilyn for a informative and fun day. Napua Banks

Wonderful tour of various aspects of local agriculture on Maui. The tour went to Ulupalakua Ranch, Alii Kula Lavender Farm, and the Surfing Goat Dairy. Delicious samples and lunch were provided as well as many opportunities to photograph stunning scenery and beautiful flowers/plants. Van was large, air-conditioned and comfortable. Rick and Marilyn Lopes, who run the company, are entertaining and informative of local history and culture. An altogether enjoyable day experiencing the Upcountry vistas and local farms "off the beaten path."

Our family had the pleasure of taking the Maui Country Farm tour with Marilyn and Rick during our trip to Maui in August 2011. We had a wonderful day exploring the farms of Maui, and were treated royally by our tour guides. Marilyn and Rick truly love Maui and are eager to share the aloha with you. If you are interested in Maui's agriculture, I would highly recommend Marilyn and Rick's tour. Their hospitality is second to none.
