The Bernese Oberland Trek takes a swath right through the most spectacular scenery in the Swiss Alps. This is "super model" alpine terrain. We hike along alpine trails from inn to inn past alpine lakes, over high passes and under famous peaks such as the Eiger North Face.
We begin the trek in the small town of Meiringen and quickly go deep into the Engelhoerner region of the Bernese Swiss Alps. After passing through the resort town of Grindelwald, we hike directly under the famous North Face of the Eiger and stay at a hotel made famous in movies about climbing attempts on the Eiger. We also take in spectacular views of the Jungfrau and the Monch. We also add a day of glacier trekking at the top of the famous Jungfaujoch train that tunnels inside the Eiger.
After staying in the ski resort town of Wengen, we pass through the "Yosemite" of Switzerland, the Lauterbrunnen Valley and stay in the idyllic town of Murren. The last few days of the trek take us over some high alpine passes and through tiny Swiss villages before arriving at our final destination in Kandersteg.
We stay at 3 and 4-star hotels the entire trek and our luggage is transported to our next destination every day, enabling us to hike with a very lightweight pack and enjpy fresh clothes every night. At night we relax while enjoying fine Swiss cuisine. Dinner, breakfast and picnic lunches are included as well as all lodging during the Bernese trek.
Our Swiss treks are led by IFMGA/UIAGM internationally certified American guides experienced in Switzerland as well as multi-lingual guides. You will be in good hands with someone who not only understands Switzerland, but also understands your culture. CAG owner/director Dave Miller will be leading the 2012 Berner Oberland trek and has been guiding in the Berner for many years.
Join us in 2012 on the Swiss Bernese Oberland trek and experience some of the best of the Swiss Alps.
