Itinerary

<
Day 1: Meet in Seattle. Ride into the North Cascades, from Cle Elum to Salmon La Sac.

Our eight-day tour begins with a morning pick-up in Seattle. We’ll whisk you away to the tiny Cascade Mountain town of Cle Elum, whose name means ‘swift water’ in the Kittitas tribe’s language. Today, ride through Wenatchee National Forest in the Cascade Mountains, beneath forested peaks and beside crystal rivers. Finish at gorgeous Suncadia Resort, a luxury mountain retreat tucked into the pine forests along the Cle Elum River on the cloudless eastern slopes.

Day 2: Ride over Blewett Pass (elevation 4,102’) and into charming Leavenworth.

Today, ride up and over 4,102-foot Blewett Pass with its magnificent views of the appropriately-named Enchantment Range of the Cascade Mountains. After lunch, a very scenic highway winds through more of the Wenatchee National Forest to the charming Bavarian-style village of Leavenworth.

Day 3: Ride to secluded Lake Wenatchee.

Cruise through today's loop ride: apple orchards and side roads lead through more of Wenatchee National Forest (sense a theme here?) to the tiny town of Plain. Lunch at Lake Wenatchee, a sparkling mountain gem set amongst stunning Cascade peaks. Hop back on the bike to finish the loop back to Leavenworth for your second night at the Icicle Village Resort.

Day 4: Climb over Badger Mountain to Lake Chelan, a stunning 50-mile-long glacial lake.

Ride a challenging 85-mile route today. From Leavenworth, pedal side roads winding through apple orchard country to the town of Wenatchee. Cross the Columbia River and head over Badger Mountain – a scenic, fun and hilly ride. After lunch in the town of Waterville, continue north through lovely high-plains wheat fields, then drop down to Chelan Falls and climb up again to Lake Chelan, a pristine, 50-mile-long glacier fed lake. Tonight, stay at Campbell’s resort, a full service destination resort on eight acres of manicured lakefront. Enjoy the hot tubs!

Day 5: Ride from Chelan to the old-west town of Winthrop.

Bicycle from Lake Chelan along the Columbia River north to Pateros. Take a side trip to Alta Lake State Park for a gourmet picnic lunch. Back on the road, follow the Methow River through Carlton and Twisp. Here in the remote Okanagan region, keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles, white-tailed deer and the occasional elk or moose. Finish in the historic Old West town of Winthrop (strap on those six shooters!) Spend two nights here at Sun Mountain Lodge. Frommer’s Travel Guide raves, “The setting is breathtaking, the views are awe-inspiring, and the amenities are first class.”

Day 6: Ride Loup Loup Pass, go for a hike or choose from Winthrop’s herd of offerings.

Choose from plenty of options for both riders and ‘resters.' Cycle to the town of Omak at the foot of the Okanagan Highlands via 4,020-foot Loup Loup Pass. Or select one of the activities at the lodge – anything from golf to whitewater rafting to a spa treatment. You’ll enjoy the hot pools here as well!

Day 7: Ride over the Cascades via 5,477’ Washington Pass, all the way to La Conner – a 130-miler.

This longest day offers a challenging route of 130 miles if you choose to cycle the whole way. Ride from Sun Mountain Lodge through the beautiful Methow Valley, over the Cascade Mountains to the waterfront town of La Conner, on the western side of the state. Climb 5,477-foot Washington Pass, downhill and then uphill again to 4,875-foot Rainy Pass. Lunch at Diablo Dam (once the world’s tallest dam at 389 feet) with Liberty Bell Mountain looming above. Once on the west side of the Cascades, cruise down – all the way down to 100 feet of elevation. Finally, bicycle famous Chuckanut Drive with its spectacular views of the San Juan Islands, and finish in La Conner. Spent tonight at deluxe La Conner Country Inn.

Day 8: Ride from La Conner to tranquil Camano Island, then head back to Seattle.

Bicycle from La Conner on mostly flat roads along the peaceful reaches of Skagit Bay to Camano Island. Revel in the views of the Straits of Juan de Fuca and pastoral Whidbey Island. Ride gentle side roads along the island’s waterfront to a state park. Celebrate with a final gourmet picnic lunch before we take you back to Seattle, a short van ride away.
