This cycle tour is both a cultural and historical exploration into the heart of Thailand. Whether you have never been to Thailand before or are an old Asia hand you will find this really is an amazing country and the best way to explore it is by bicycle.

We start in the original capital of the first Thai Kingdom dating back to 1238, with some impressive ruins situated in the old city walls (approx 21), and a further 70 within a 5 km radius making bicycles the best way to explore this fascinating area. Leaving the history behind we head out into rural Thailand as we cycle along quiet country roads, giving you ample time to take photos and chat with locals.

We'll cycle from the central plains to the foothills of the mountains surrounding Chiang Mai. We overnight at quaint towns well off the tourist track before arriving at the base of the highest point in Thailand, Doi Inthanon (2595 m above sea level). Doi Inthanon with its numerous waterfalls, royal chedis that honor the King and Queen of Thailand and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside make this a great place for an afternoon of exploration.

We finish the trip in Chiang Mai, where we have a final ride along the Ping river, embark on a tour of the city and enjoy a celebratory dinner to end a memorable tour.
Day 1: Sukhothai
We’ll pick you up from Sukhothai airport and transfer to the hotel. We’ll fit our bikes and then after a light lunch start our exploration of what once was the first capital of Thailand. The 13th Century reign is generally viewed as the “golden age” of Siam due to the fact that its influence spread as far west as Burma, east as far as Cambodia and south down into Malaysia. We’ll start riding to some of the more interesting temples outside the ancient city walls, including Wat Si Chum and Wat Saphan Hin. To get a good view of the surrounding area we’ll climb the rock stairway, it will be worth the effort. We ride some very scenic back roads and enter the park through one of the ancient gateways. We have plenty of time to stop and take pictures and bicycles are the best way to explore this ancient city
Lodging Ruean Thai Hotel
Description Welcome to Ruean Thai Hotel. The hotel is an attractive and charming hotel in Sukhothai which incorporates the use of contemporary Thai architecture to blend in with the modern life style. Having very truly unique style and decoration, Ruean Thai Hotel is now reputable for its own traditional elegance
Day 2: Sukhothai - Si Satchanalai - Sukhothai
Today we start with a short transfer to a local temple. The riding is nice and easy as we head towards Si Satchanalai, a much overlooked ancient temple site, but in some ways more appealing than Sukhothai as it has a certain unique charm. We ride into the park and have lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the main sites. We end the ride with a cycle next to the river and some impressive kilns which are worth a stop before we pack up the bikes and head back to Sukhothai.

Day 3: Sukhothai – Thoen
After breakfast we’ll take a short transfer before we start our journey north. The mountains start to appear in the distance and are quite dramatic as we pass close by. By mid-afternoon we’ll be at our overnight destination, Thoen, a very quaint old town with many teak shop houses and a temple built in 1392 – Wat Weing. The hotel has an inviting garden in the back, a perfect location for a few sundowners.
Lodging Nakorn Thoen Hotel
Description Our hotel is ideally situated for convenient travel in the near-by region and expert staff will be on hand to offer their local knowledge of the local area.
Day 4: Thoen – Hot
This is probably the best ride of the trip as we head deep into the countryside, passing by some very small communities and giving you a chance to see rural Thai life close up. We pass by orchards of longans and fields of sugar cane and in the distant are stunning views of the mountains which make this a delightful area to ride in. There are some hills on this ride, not too many, just enough to add some variety to the riding we do. We end at a small village before transferring to the floating restaurants at Doi Tao reservoir. After lunch we have a short transfer to Hot
Lodging Inthanon Highland
Description The Inthanon Highland Resort is the nearest good accommodation to Doi Inthanon National Park being only a few hundred metres from the park entrance. This is a great ride on the way to Chom Tong and our charming resort set in the wonderful countryside. This resort is great for nature lovers. Afternoon trip to Doi Inthanon (highest point in Thailand at 2595m). With a chance to see some impressive waterfalls, and great views makes this a trip not to be missed.

We transfer a short way from our hotel to Ban Tawai – the centre of the handicraft industry in Thailand and a great place for some shopping. After some time for browsing we start the ride to Chiang Mai. This is a very pleasant ride which follows the Ping river. We stop just on the outskirts for the final transfer to our hotel. We have a farewell dinner at a local riverside restaurant.

John and i enjoyed our bike tour very much and we miss Bottle already. We think you organised an excellent variety of destinations and it was all so well worked out. We love papaya and refresher towels and riding in the rain with cute red raincoats and amazing temple stops and rice paddies. I particularly enjoyed karaoke in the shopping centre and talking to the herd of cows and waterbuffalo. We look forward to our next tour.

The bike tour was a highlight of our 3 week visit to Thailand. Ant was an excellent guide; I felt safe riding with him (I especially loved the way he directed traffic!) and he was a fun and informative guide. Mr. Rod provided the most excellent support, beyond our expectations.

This tour was simply fantastic. Our guides (Woody, Jumm, and Rim) were totally prepared, professional and, most of all, great people. The scenery, food, culture, history, religion, and the famous Thai friendliness were all better than I imagined. The van was always loaded with ice cold drinks, fresh tropical fruit, and an endless variety of delicious Thai snacks. The back roads were perfect for riding and sightseeing. Woody has a sixth sense to pull off the road at just the right places to show us some unique cultural, culinary, or historical feature. And every Thai school child seemed to sense us going by so they could wave and yell "hello!" For our family of three, this was a perfect way to experience Thailand and on the way home we talked about which tour to take next.

My family had the most wonderful time on the Sukothai-Chiang Mai tour! The trip was well organized, fun and informative. Woody, our guide, was fantastic and attentive to our needs. Jum (thoughtful guide intern) and Rin (the super safe driver and Snack Man) were always accommodating and available to assist. The bikes and support van were clean and in great working order. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip to others. The trip was challenging enough for my biker husband and 15 year old son and great for me, an occassional rider (I jumped in the van when I needed a rest). Woody did an excellent job selecting restaurants along the way and opening our eyes to "real" Thai cooking and culture. This trip was a 10!
