Alaska Family | Kenai Peninsula

Explore the Kenai Peninsula at a comfortable pace by train, small ship, sea kayak, mountain bike and foot. Wild, pristine and blessed with an abundance of astounding scenery and wildlife, the wonders of Alaska amaze explorers of all ages.

Explore tide pools, brimming with life. Bike past thundering waterfalls, along forest paths and kayak protected bays in search of whales, seals and puffins. Sail on a nature cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park coming nose-to-nose with tidal glaciers and exotic marine life and learn about the migratory habits of humpback whales. And top off the day with tasty s’mores, telling stories around a bonfire under an Alaskan midnight sun.
Day 1: Alaska Railroad / Fox Island /ResurrectionBay
Early pick-up in Anchorage • Begin with a four hour scenic train ride on the famous Alaska Railroad, heading south to historic Seward • Board a ferry for a short cruise to Fox Island • Enjoy a grilled Alaskan salmon lunch before checking into your wilderness lodge • Explore the shoreline and protected coves of Resurrection Bay by kayak, searching for Dall’s Porpoises, Steller sea lions and orca whales • Dinner is prepared by our private chef followed by a bonfire on the island’s pebble beach.
Lodging Fox Island Wildernes Lodge
Description This beautifully rustic lodge is situated on a 3 square mile island. Charming, romantic and completely private, Fox Island is accessible only by boat and features cozy cabins in a rocky island cove setting.
Day 2: Kenai Fjords wilderness cruise /Seward
Explore the inter-tidal life zone on Fox Island, on the hunt for sea urchins, caves and waterfalls • Board a small ship for a Kenai Fjords Glacier & Wildlife Cruise • Lunch is served onboard • Check out tidal glaciers and abundant sea-life from the ship’s deck as naturalist guides share their expertise on the region • Back in Seward, shuttle to the Windsong Lodge, your home for the next two nights • Head out on your bike to Exit Glacier Overlook before dinner at the Resurrection Roadhouse, where you’ll dine on local Alaskan cuisine.

Description Situated in a thick spruce grove with a panoramic view of the Resurrection River Valley, the Windsong Lodge is Seward's finest accommodation.
Day 3: Exit Glacier / Harding Ice Field
Morning bike ride into Kenai Fjords National Park (1 hour/8 miles) • Take an easy hike along the Exit Glacier Overlook Trail or opt for a more challenging hike to view the 300-square-mile Harding Ice Field, the largest in North America (seven miles wide!) • Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center to experience close encounters with puffin, octopus, sea lions and other sea life • This evening, dine on fresh-off-the-boat seafood at Chinook's Waterfront Restaurant

Day 4: RussianRiver / GraniteCreek / Hope
Take a morning hike to Russian River Falls and Lake • Stop to view Sockeye salmon returning to spawn (July-August) • Mount up and pedal along Granite Creek, past wildflowers, waterfalls and alpine valleys to the old Gold Rush town of Hope (ride up to 24 miles) • Transfer to our luxury accommodations at the Alyeska Prince Hotel • Dinner’s on your own – explore the many options at the Alyeska or in Girdwood (ask your guides for suggestions!).

Description Nestled in the Chugach Mountains, this elegant hotel boasts lovely guestrooms, expansive views, a full-service spa and the award-winning Seven Glaciers restaurant 2,000 feet above the hotel.
Day 5: Winter Creek Trail / Byron Glacier
Depart from the resort for a hike through a dense rain forest with a surprise along the way • Eat lunch in a cozy cabin at the historic Crow Creek Gold Mine • Hike Byron Glacier while searching for ice worms • Bike to Moose Flats • Our final dinner is at Jack Sprat – known for its fresh and creative cuisine.

Description Nestled in the Chugach Mountains, this elegant hotel boasts lovely guestrooms, expansive views, a full-service spa and the award-winning Seven Glaciers restaurant 2,000 feet above the hotel.
Day 6: Girdwood to Indian Creek / Anchorage
After a leisurely breakfast, depart for a short bike ride to Indian Creek • It’s then back to Anchorage to say our fond farewells.
