Itinerary

Day 1: Ousel Falls / Lower Gayser Basin / Old Faithful

Meet in Bozeman and shuttle to the town of Big Sky, Montana, where we will do an easy mid-morning hike • After lunch, it’s off to Yellowstone National Park • Explore Lower Geyser Basin and the geothermal Fountain Paint Pots and take an easy hike to Grand Prismatic • After checking into our home walk to the historic Old Faithful Inn for dinner and a chance to watch Old Faithful erupt under the stars

Lodging: Old Faithful Snow Lodge
Description: Completed in 1999, the Snow Lodge is the newest of the park’s full service hotels, and features heavy timber construction, exterior log columns and a cedar shingle roof, making it a significant example of classic “parkitecture”

Day 2: Upper Geyser Basin / Yellowstone Lake

Begin the day with a hike through the Upper Geyser Basin to Observation Point for great geyser views • Picnic lunch on the Yellowstone Lake overlook trail, with views of North America’s largest mountain lake • Hike Elephant Back Mountain Trail for more panoramic views of the lake • Check into Lake Yellowstone Hotel with time to relax before dinner in the hotel’s elegant dining room.

Description: Lake Yellowstone Hotel was completed in 1891 and restored to its 1920s grandeur in 1990. The majestic hotel sits on the shore of Yellowstone Lake and is listed on the Register of Historic Places.

Day 3: Storm Point / Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

Embark on an extraordinary note card-guided “solo nature walk” at Storm Point followed by a gourmet picnic lunch • Keep an eye out for bison, elk, grizzly bears, wolves and eagles on a drive through Hayden Valley • Set off on a three-mile hike to the rim of the 10,000-year-old, 1,000-foot deep Grand Canyon of Yellowstone • Descend Uncle Tom’s Stairs to the brink of the 308-foot Lower Falls • Shuttle to the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel • Enjoy a special campfire dinner tonight.

Description: This hotel was named after the steaming limestone terraces just above the hotel area. Elk routinely graze outside the hotel, around the parade grounds of what was once Fort Yellowstone.

Day 4: Lamar Valley / Mammoth Hot Springs / Yellowstone River

Wake early to catch the sunrise and prime wildlife viewing in Lamar Valley • Explore Mammoth Hot Springs before lunch • Set off on an exciting whitewater rafting adventure on the Yellowstone River • Dinner is on your own tonight, in the town of Gardiner, Montana.

Day 5: Bunson Peak / Absaroka Mountains

Hike Bunson Peak, an ancient volcano’s core for a rewarding 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and valleys • Lunch there at a nice picnic spot, followed by a drive through Paradise Valley to the Flying Diamond Ranch • Saddle up for a gentle horseback ride up Pine Creek into the Absaroka Mountains • Head to the historic Chico Hot Springs and day spa for a soak in rejuvenating mineral waters • Gather tonight in the resort’s dining room for a gourmet dinner.

Description: This rustic-chic inn boasts mineral hot spring-fed pools, extensive gardens, spa services and exceptional dining. In June of 1999 Chico Hot Springs was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Day 6: Chico Hot Springs/ Bozeman

Sleep late and enjoy a leisurely morning at the resort • Stroll the gardens, indulge in a spa treatment or opt for a scenic hike before returning to Bozeman airport.
