The Bibbulmun Track is the longest walking trail in Western Australia, winding its way over 900km from the foothills of Perth through Jarrah and Karri Forests to the rugged coastline of Albany. This tour visits some of the most spectacular sections in the forests and coast of the far South-West.

We will walk through cool forests of towering Karri trees and massive Tingle trees. We also experience long, lonely stretches of rugged coastline, battered by the unrelenting fury of the Southern Ocean. Traversing ancient granite ridges, we descend on to fields of wildflowers stretching to the horizon. We also trek past isolated coastal wetlands resounding with the chorus of thousands of migratory birds.

This is a vehicle supported walking tour similar in operation to the World Expeditions Larapinta Trek in Central Australia. We have chosen some of the more spectacular sections of the trail, a selection of full-day walks, connected by short drives. While we walk, our support vehicle transfers our gear to the next campsite, and you need carry only a small daypack containing your lunch, a camera, water bottle, etc. From the rocky escarpments that provide exhilarating views, to the tranquility of the tall forests, our flexible itinerary caters for all levels of experience.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Depart Perth, Trek from Kalmunda Terminus (8 km): We pick you up from your accommodation between 7am and 7.30am in Perth CBD. We travel to the Kalmunda trailhead in the hills east of Perth. We begin with a briefing where you can get acquainted as your guide introduces the program for the next 7 days. Our first walk of approximately 8km is the perfect start to our adventure. After a good mornings walk, lunch is waiting at the trailhead. In the afternoon we drive further south to our camping area at Nanga Mill. We set up at the campground where after a delicious meal around the campfire, you will drift off to sleep listening to the chorus of forest wildlife.

DAY 2: Chuditch Walk (4km), Spring Gully walk (10km), Camp Maranup Ford: A short morning walk takes us around the delightful Chuditch Walk Trail (4km) while our support guide finishes packing the camp. After our first walk we drive further south to the Spring Gully trailhead and fantastic wander through the hills and valleys to the Blackwood River. A swim in the river is a great way to cool off after the walk, then transfer to the wonderful camp at Maranup Ford.

DAY 3: Walk Beedeleup Falls to Big Brook Aboretum (19km): The Karri Forest explorer walk offers an idyllic experience of trekking amongst the big forests of the Pemberton region. With swing bridges and the gushing Beedelup Falls, the trail offers a bit of everything, finishing at a sandy swimming beach on the shores of big Brook Dam (pack your swimmers and towel). We camp at the nearby Aboretum campground.

DAY 4: Walk Mount Clare to Walpole (14km): A drive south takes us deep in to the forested Walpole Wilderness Area. We are dropped at the trailhead in hills above the coast. From the shaded forests of Mt Clare we walk through Karri trees to John Rate lookout with views over the Walpole-Nornalup inlet. Descending to the coastal village of Walpole for lunch, we then walk on to our camp at Coalmine Beach on the shores of the Walpole Inlet.

DAY 5: Tingle Forest Walk, Frankland River Forest (18.2 km): Walking out of camp we begin with an ascent to the Hilltop Lookout and then onto the Giant Tingle tree. From here we continue through the cool forest and some steep terrain to the tranquil Frankland River for lunch. Following the River to the Valley of the Giants we descend to our pickup point where a short drive takes us to the “Tree Tops Walk”. Here we will experience a birds-eye view of the Tingle and Karri Trees from the elevated walkway before returning to our campsite at Coalmine Beach.

DAY 6: Hike to Conspicuous Cliffs to Peaceful Bay for incredible views (16km): From camp its a short drive to the incredible views from Conspicuous Cliffs, if the swell is up we may see the surfers riding one of Australia’s heaviest big wave spots at the offshore bombora. From here we begin possibly the hardest, but for most people the most rewarding section of the track. A series of rocky headlands and white sandy beaches provide a stark contrast to the cool forests of the previous days. Keeping watch for migrating whales, we make our way to Peaceful Bay. We return to our comfortable campsite at Coalmine Beach. This is a very exposed walk, so on hot days plenty of sunscreen, water and a hat are essential.

DAY 7: William Bay (6km) - Perth: Driving from Coalmine Beach we drive to the reknowned William Bay National Park to explore the stunning Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks. From here a walk of 6km takes us to Lights Beach where we rejoin the vehicle. After lunch in the tow of Denmark we take the long drive back to Perth via Mount Barker and the Albany Highway. We will arrive in Perth around 6pm.
