AWF Donor Safari 2012

Embark on an exclusive safari with African Wildlife Foundation to explore some of Southern Africa’s most remarkable landscapes and its incredible wildlife.
Embark on an exclusive safari with African Wildlife Foundation to explore some of Southern Africa’s most remarkable landscapes and its incredible wildlife.

Begin in the Lower Zambezi, where multitudes of wild animals cluster around the mighty Zambezi channel, and wildlife is virtually undisturbed. Choose between game drives, walking safaris, and canoe trips to explore this diverse AWF Heartland.

Continue within Zambia to magnificent Victoria Falls where rhino tracking, hiking, and breathtaking views of one of the world’s greatest wonders of the natural world await. Feel the spray of this exciting and enormous waterfall.

Ultimately, travel to Botswana to explore Chobe National Park, home to the largest concentration of elephants in Africa, and onward to the fabled Okavango Delta. The Delta’s maze-like waterways provide a rich habitat for a host of predators and prey, and a fitting end to your Southern Africa safari.
Days 1 - 3: Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia
Arrive Monday morning in Lusaka, Zambia from your international flight and board your scheduled charter flight to the Lower Zambezi. Th e Kasaka River Lodge, on the banks of the Zambezi River, will be your base for exploring Lower Zambezi National Park and the Chiawa Game Management area. Each day you will have the choice of walking safaris, game drives, canoe safaris, or boat rides on the Zambezi, all with ample opportunity to view buffalo, elephant, hippo, crocodile, and more. (B,L,D)
Lodging Kasaka River Lodge
Description Kasaka River Lodge is a 20 bed luxury tented camp offering an authentic and memorable safari experience. Nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Chiawa Game Management area it is set in a natural bush environment with each chalet secluded amongst the native flora, only 4 kilometers by road from the Lower Zambezi National Park. This is the only stretch on the 2,700 kilometer course of the Zambezi River where one finds National Parks on both banks of the river - the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia and the famed Mana Pools World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe.
Days 4 - 5: Livingstone, Zambia & Victoria Falls
Fly by private charter to Livingstone, Zambia, and transfer to your hotel, the Protea Hotel Livingstone. Victoria Falls is the center of exciting activities from walks in the rainforest to crafts markets, as well as more adventurous undertakings. Of course, the falls themselves are the main attraction and are a must for even the amateur photographer. Enjoy a historian-led walking tour of the Falls, visit a local school supported by AWF, and relax on a private sundowner cruise. Track Zambia’s last remaining population of white rhinos on foot and meet a researcher dedicated to their conservation at Mosi O Tunya National Park.
Lodging Protea Hotel Livingstone
Description Protea Hotel Livingstone is located on the outskirts of Livingstone, the tourism capital of Zambia. The hotel is adjacent to the Falls Park shopping and entertainment complex, so there is never a shortage of things to do at and around the hotel.
Days 6 - 7: Chobe National Park, Botswana
Travel by road and boat to Kasane, Botswana. After clearing customs into Botswana you will be driven to Muchenje Safari Lodge in Chobe National Park. Located on an escarpment overlooking the banks of the Chobe River, the lodge is designed to highlight the breathtaking panorama of the Caprivi Strip and up-close views of a watering hole attracting buffalo and elephant. The Lodge’s swimming pool, built amongst natural rock formations, provides a tranquil setting in which to relax after boat cruises, game drives, nature walks and local cultural excursions. Chobe is the perfect introduction to the incredible wildlife-viewing opportunities of Botswana. (B,L,D)

For an added adventure, you may wish to match your skills against the renowned fighting tiger fish, bream, and pike in the local waterways. Spend your days exploring the local land and waterways where, at this time of the year, wildlife is at every turn. Evenings are a comfortable time. After a hot shower and an ice-cold cocktail, enjoy a bush-cuisine meal accompanied by fine wines and a good yarn around the campfire. (B,L,D)
