Featured in Wanderlust Magazine's 50 Best Trips for 2014 and in National Geographic Traveler's 50 Tours of a Lifetime, this unique adventure and multi-activity holiday takes us on a whirlwind Central American discovery tour, from Nicaragua, through El Salvador, to finally end up on the Caribbean coast of Honduras. We fit a lot into this amazing holiday, including; sightseeing, exploring, easy jungle hiking, a canopy-level tour, volcano-boarding, surfing and turtle and dolphin watching, as well as chilling out in peaceful cafes in brightly painted colonial towns. Starting in Nicaragua we stay in the beautiful colonial town of Granada before enjoying Lake Nicaragua with Monkey island, and the waterfalls & volcanoes of Ometepe island. A stop in Leon allows us to walk up the volcano of Cerro Negro and then ash board down! Wanderlust 50 Best Trips 2014We arrive into El Salvador on a boat and then have a couple of nights in El Cuco with its white sandy beaches, where we have the opportunity to surf, and visit a turtle project. Travelling inland we visit coffee plantations and the colourful town of La Palma. Once in Honduras our first stop is the famous Mayan ruins of Copan and then we transfer to the Caribbean for three days with activities including kayaking through the mangroves. Sign up for a wonderful insight to the delights of vibrant Central America!

Is this holiday for you?

Walking, surfing, kayaking and canopy tours in Nicaragua, El Salvdor and Honduras; with activities almost every day, this central American adventure holiday has something for everybody. The surfing lesson and kayaking is at a level where previous experience is not required (although you must be able to swim at least 25m unaided). The walks are mostly quite short (half a day or a little more) but can be hot in the humid climes. The canopy tour (zip wires) are between 3 and 30m high from platform to platform and you are required to climb a ladder to get to some of the platforms. Safety harnesses and karabiners are used for the duration of the canopy tour, no previous experience is required but you should not be afraid of heights! Again, no experience is required for the ash boarding on Cerro Negro. The majority of the activities are included in the price, although some are at an additional cost. You can opt out of any activity. There is a fair amount of driving distance to cover during the 2 weeks, the longest day's drive is 7-8hours, but the majority of the others are around 3-4hrs. There is also a focus on wildlife (turtles, dolphins, monkeys, birds and crocodiles) during the holiday. Participants should be fit and active and most importantly have a spirit of adventure.

The owner of the local agent drove 3 hours in the early morning just to meet our group and to make sure we were enjoying our trip. Such a personal touch! Our guide was fantastic! He is extremely conscientious and personable. This was a fantastic trip. Although it was not very long, we packed in a lot of things without feeling rushed as we were able to stay in one place for a couple of nights at a time. I really enjoyed our stay in Ometepe Island. All of the activities were a lot of fun. The Ziplining on the first day of the tour was a great way to bond as a group.

This trip exceeded our expectations. It was a fantastic mix of culture, history, wildlife and activities (surfing, zip wiring and boarding down an active volcano). We visited beautiful cities such as Granada and Leone in Nicaragua and Suchitoto in El Salvador. We learnt all about the recent political struggles in these countries. However, we all also visited Mayan ruins In El Salvador and Copan in Honduras. The trip is very relaxed and there are opportunities to swim as some hotels have pools and we were often staying at the beach. There are some long travelling days however the trip is so well organised that these days were punctuated by stops at interesting quirky little towns or volcanic crater lakes. El Salvador is a hidden treasure, we were often the only tourists staying at hotels and in local towns. The beaches in El Cuco were expansive with few hotels, the sea was warmer than the shower in the hotel. We released 1 day old turtles which was particularly memorable. During the course of the trip we frequently referred to our guidebooks which in my opinion were very negative about Honduras. We did not experience any difficulties on this trip, we went to local bars in the evenings and people were warm and welcoming. We felt safe at all times. Our guide was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about everywhere we visited. He took us to local traditional restaurants and in Suchitoto we went to a bar which is frequented by rebels from the civil war.
