Overview

Book
Dragons, Dzongs, and the Himalayas this tour through the otherworldly country of Bhutan offers adventurers the chance to experience a truly exotic culture in a spectacular natural environment. Visit medieval fortresses and monasteries, climb countless mountain passes, enjoy countless cruising descents, and camp in pristine nature. Uncover Bhutan's many surprises as you rise to the challenge of crossing this Himalayan country by bike.

Beginning in Paro, acquaint yourself with the local history with tours of some of the country's best museums and most well-preserved fortresses before heading out to see real Bhutanese life in a wild countryside. Steady your legs and push further and into higher elevations as you weave east through the country, up and over its peaks. Witness the national pastimes of archery and dancing in the many monasteries, and experience the mysticism of a deeply spiritual people and their ancient Buddhist traditions.

For those who love to climb, this is a tour with no flat sections, only uphill and downhill. One of our most hard-earned rides (daily climbing averages over 1,500 m), your legs and lungs will surely be strengthened at journey's end. But your heart will be warm and open from your encounters and experiences with the genuine and genuinely enlightened Bhutanese locals.

Highlights

    • Visit Paro Museum and one of the major Dzongs (fortress temple).
    • Visit museums in Thimpu and the National Institute for Zorig Chusum.

We had an absolutely fantastic time riding across Bhutan's stunning countryside. The equipment was first rate. Kinga, our guide and Karma, our driver, made every day a treat; this trip is a perfect blend of recreational and cultural adventures. Their hospitality and support were greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
