Overview

Book
Come on a short but sweet tour through the north of Spain and get to know the people, landscapes, customs and cuisine that combine to make this part of the country so fascinating. From sipping delicious Rioja in Logrono and delighting in the seaside charms of bustling Barcelona to enjoying the lively tapas bars of San Sebastian and pulling up a seat in an atmospheric square in Madrid - this will be one eight-day adventure you won't forget.

Highlights

    • It's easy to be filled up by the architecture, culture and vibrant nightlife of Barcelona, but the food on offer is just as good. Traditional Catalan dishes such as fideua (similar to seafood paella) and botifarra amb mongetes (haricot beans served with sausage) taste a little like heaven. The wine isn't bad either; Barcelona is renowed for sparkling wine
    • The fortified medieval city of Pamplona is a great place to discover on foot. Weave through the city's winding alleyways to the immense Gothic Cathedral and walk down the street of the famous bull run
    • Logrono is bursting with delicious local produce and wine, just waiting to be enjoyed on an included pinxtos crawl. Delicioso!
    • Take a long siesta on the golden beaches of San Sebastian, one of Spain's most scenic coastal destinations. As the sun goes down, join the crowds as they come out to play among the city's exciting nightlife
    • The Art Walk in Madrid is every art lover's dream. In one small stretch you can browse the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Reina Sofia and the Prado, one of the world's most celebrated galleries

Spain proved beyond expectation. We hear little about this country, and what we hear is all bad. My visit gave a very different and positive insight onto this country.

It was really easy to catch a taxi from the Barcelona airport — just look for the taxi stand and wait in line. Likewise, there were taxis everywhere in Madrid at all hours and the ride to the airport is a standard 30 euros.

We found that the places we visited, the sights that we saw and the local events that we witnessed more than covered our expectations of what we hoped to achieve from the holiday. Our experience was made even the more memorable from having an absolutely first class tour guide who gelled with the group. Carlos's ability to seek out quality places to eat and the variety offered was first class. Carlos consistently put himself out to ensure that all members of the group thoroughly enjoyed the Intrepid experience.

Being in such a small group was a highlight of the tour with ease of access on public transport and restaurants and locations. Having a guide who is a local allowed us easy access to everything and we could how respected & liked he was at locations we visited.Look forward to another experience!

Absolutely fantastic tour, in part because of the cities visited, but particularly because of the tour leader, who was superb in every respect.

The tour of Northern Spain was excellent because of the enthusiasm of the tour leader- Carlos Sanchez. He had comprehensive local knowledge and spent a lot of time interacting with the group taking us to tapas bars/ restaurants only a local would know about.
