Overview

Book
This snowshoeing holiday in the Canadian Rockies and Yellowstone National Park really is the ultimate in wilderness experience and wintery magic. In the Canadian Rockies we have snowshoeing days in the Banff and Lake Louise areas including Lake Agnes and Emerald Lake. We also hop up to Yoho National Park for a day snowshoeing amongst the majestic white clad mountains and pine trees dripping in snow. A couple of days in the lesser visited (but totally splendid) Kananaskis Park ends our time in Canada and we cross the border into the USA and onto the very special Yellowstone National Park.

In winter the wildlife in the park comes to life and the sight of bison covered in icicles from the cooled steam from the geysers (including Old Faithful) can be found no where else on this earth. Whilst quietly snowshoeing through the park we are also likely to see moose, elk and possibly even a wolf or two. Snowshoeing in this area is extremely special and it will be a holiday of a life-time.

Is this holiday for you?

On this holiday we have 10 days of snowshoeing in the Canadian Rockies and Yellowstone National Park. The days are between 2-6hrs snowshoeing. You should have a good level of hill walking fitness, but no snowshoeing experience is necessary. There is one short walk where you will be using crampons and not snowshoes. Again no previous experience is required and this walk is optional. There are two days when there are long transfers in the vehicle to cover the distances required to travel between Yellowstone National Park and the Canadian Rockies. There are also transfers on several of the other days. All walks are day walks.

The accommodation is in comfortable lodges and hotels. Please note that one departure starts in Calgary and finishes in Bozeman and the next departure will start in Bozeman and finish in Calgary.

This two- centred holiday gave the opportunity to explore the alpine nature of the Canadian Rockies as well as the awesome geology of Yellowstone National Park. The guides were competent, confident, well informed and did all they could to ensure everyone had a positive experience. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to do some 'back country' walking. The accommodation arrangements enabled us to have some personal space and was probably the most luxurious we have stayed in while on a snow shoe holiday.

This is a fabulous trip. The snowshoeing was excellent and the landscapes just amazing in both the Rockies and Yellowstone. This must be the best time of year to visit Yellowstone and appreciate its wildlife. It was reasonably challenging, great fun & a magical experience.Francois was an excellent leader who skillfully matched the capabilities of the individuals with the aspirations of the group as a whole. He was entertaining, amusing, informative and efficient. He went out of his way to source the gluten-free food I needed so I never went hungry or felt excluded.

The snowshoe walks were very well led by our Canadian Mountain Guide, FX, and we went 'off-piste' on may occasions - great fun! Winter is a great time to visit Yellowstone as the wildlife spotting chances seem to increase as the animals congregate near to the areas of thermal activity. On our trip we saw bison, elk, coyote, bald eagle, and also the rarely seen bobcat [slinking along the bank of the Madison River].I have been on many 'adventure' holidays and I think that our leader on this trip, FX, was one of the best and looked after our group very well. 10/10. Thanks!
