Overview

Book
Lima is shrouded in history with glorious Spanish colonial buildings and grand museums dotted throughout this grand capital. The Amazon Basin contains the biggest river by volume and the largest tropical rainforest in the world. We discover the incredibly rich biodiversity of this environment on a journey by boat and on foot before returning to Lima. From Lima we fly to the former Inca stronghold of Cusco, where we have plenty of time to soak up the colourful local life. After catching a train to the town of Aguas Calientes, we visit the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu – the lost city of the Incas. A spectacular bus journey then takes us further inland to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca, home to the fascinating floating reed islands of the Uros Indians. Spend a couple of nights on a private island on Lake titicaca. Before we arrive in Bolivia’s capital of La Paz we discover the ruins of ancient Tiahuanaco. La Paz is the highest capital city in the world and combines a modern cosmopolitan city with ancient traditions, creating a vibrant finale to our adventure. Optional Hike Add-on: On this trip you can opt to hike the 1-day Inca Trail. More information on this trek can be found in the itinerary section your trip notes. Please contact us if you are interested in this option.

I think most will agree the highlights of this tour is the jungle & the welcome rest on Suasi Island, Lake Titicaca towards the end of the tour. Both settings are breathtaking & the ' full board meals' outstanding. While the hotel standard is mixed, the warmth, welcome & professionalism of the hotels staff is exceptional. The local guides are informative & are the bridge between us & the local people who mostly do not speak English. It's a good idea to bring some American dollars for tips & exchange - say $500 or so. Our tour was in May, except for the jungle layers of warmer clothes are necessary. Bring more m layers Han Summer, especially for cool evenings. Would recommend the day walk into Machu Picchu if you are fit enough for a 6 hour walk, 4 of those climbing. Bring hiking boots to protect your ankles as you need them even walking in the evenings as cobble stone paths & roads are uneven. A torch is helpful too.

The tour with Armando was excellent and I learnt so much of the history and the countryside of the countries we visited. An amazing adventure.

The Amazon, Peru & Bolivia tour was an amazing trip. Our guide Armando blended our group so well and took us on a journey to learn about these two interesting countries - the landscape was awesome, the cultures and history fascinating and we learnt so much about the people of each. I knew so little about Peru and Bolivia and go home so much wiser.

An amazing trip - I thoroughly recommend the 1-day Inca Trail ! So much more rewarding than taking the train... if you can walk 4 hours steadily uphill, but don't want to walk for 4 days. Lake Titicaca was another highlight that I will treasure. A great experience!

This is not Hilton to Hilton hotels. Immerse yourself in the culture, how other people live and how they are all intimately involved in sustainable tourism. GO FOR IT!

The tour was made easy for us with the airport transfers, hotel bookings, border crossings and advice about local currencies, insect repellent, sunscreen, altitude sickness, laundry, etc plus the variety of sights and experiences.

We are a company built by travellers for travellers. Take a walk around our offices and you’ll see the empty desks of people out on trips, or hear people swapping stories about a place they have just visited. Land at your destination and discover your tour leader is local to the region.

Wherever you travel with us we’ll take you to the major highlights as well as along the route less taken. This gets you closer to the local people and the culture you came to discover.
