Overview

Book
North of Pokhara, one of the finest of Himalayan journeys is the classic trek into the inner sanctum of the Annapurnas. Here, giant peaks such as 8000 metre, Annapurna 1, Annapurna South, Gangapurna and Machhapuchhre, encircle the natural amphitheatre known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. Combining the trek into the Sanctuary with a visit to Ghorepani and the classic Himalayan viewpoint of Poon Hill, this trek manages to cram the full range of Nepalese trekking experiences into 11 varied days of walking.

We encounter sub-tropical forest teeming with wildlife, pretty villages with their neatly terraced rice fields, as well as pleasant ridge walking and spectacular Himalayan panoramas. Passing through the 'gates' of the Sanctuary, we ascend briefly above 4000 metres into a world of ice and snow where we are surrounded by giant Himalayan summits. We then return to civilisation, heading south and following the tumbling Modi Khola (river), whilst passing through a picture-perfect landscape of folded hills and more scattered villages, which are home to people of the Gurung and Magar ethnic groups. With 2 nights in Kathmandu and 2 in Pokhara, we will also be able to enjoy some free time in each of Nepal's main (and very contrasting) cities. In common with all of our lodge treks, this holiday provides a great opportunity to meet and share experiences with like-minded travellers from around the world.

Yes as with all things KE one can pay a little bit more for ones holiday but its usually worth it. Lead guide Pasang Temba an absolute top man. Watch this space this guy is heading for a role in the Nepalese government someway down the line & is clearly well connected. All the support staff tip top. Good customer staff ratio. This Trek ideal for someone who wants to have earned their beer without been on your last legs to drink it. Plenty of time to acclimatize for the altitude. All accommodation ideally suitable save perhaps the Himalaya T house on the way up to Annapurna base camp which was a little scuzzy. There was some pretty unusual weather conditions evident during this Trek. Beautiful clear days up to mid afternoon followed by monsoon rains in the afternoon (the monsoons basically were a tad early this year) which meant that (and there was no problem with this) getting away a bit earlier to finish trekking a bit earlier if that makes sense. Also there was a substantial dump of snow up at ABC with the trail for the first couple of hours on the way back down covered in snow & ice. I would have packed my light non rigid crampons just to slip over my walking boots if I had packed them. Everyone said the same. Just on the subject of beer one needs to be aware & budget for beer purchasing further up the trail as its getting up to 900 rupees for a can of lager. No one has a problem with the price but you do need to be aware so you can budget for your porter fees etc. As I sa

We were lucky enough to have been shown all aspects of Nepalese culture, customs and scenery through the knowledge and pride of our truly inspiring leader - Rabi. His willingness to share his country with our 14 strong group enlightened the 10 day trek. From the populated areas of Kathmandu and Pokhara, to the villages along the way to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) as well as the locals going about their daily routines, our trip was one of trying to understand and engage with the Nepalese community; not impose upon it. With a lovely group of Sherpas and porters, we were incredibly well supported and particularly well fed - highly nutritional traditional meals with a few delicious western classics. Looking to the Annapurnas from Poon Hill and reaching ABC were amazing moments that revelled in the incomprehensible beauty of the area (my words do the views no justice). Travel and transport were sorted and there were no issues throughout the trek meaning, as visitors, we could enjoy every minute. KE as a company were very easily to deal with and more than willing to help in any way possible. I cannot recommend this trek and company more highly.

We had very high expectations & hopes for this holiday, and they were all exceeded. The organisation was superb, everything had been thought of, the logistics worked like clockwork and the information provided beforehand was comprehensive. The guide, his sherpas and the team of porters were friendly, efficient and amazingly hard-working, and nothing was too much trouble - even arranging for a fleece that had been left behind to be collected and carried miles to be reunited with its owner six days later. Of course, the mountain scenery, the sunrises and the rhododendron forests in full bloom were breathtaking. We would recommend a KE trekking holiday to anyone - and we plan to do another as soon as we can. An awesome holiday with amazing memories.

This was our first organised trekking holiday and we are so pleased that we chose KE. Prior to departing we were provided with timely and comprehensive advice and when needed KE were able to answer our queries promptly. We were met at the airport by our guide, Rabi and this was after being delayed in immigration for three hours, brilliant service. The accommodation throughout our stay was excellent, taking into account where we were and our guide and sherpas ensured that everyone's needs were met and that hygiene standards were satisfactory. The route of the trek was excellent and the scenery breath-taking, all done at a pace that suited everyone. The group size was perfect and we were lucky to have such a friendly and diverse set of fellow trekkers. We picked up some great tips from our experienced trekkers , one of which was to take a travel sink plug. This was our first organised group trek and KE and our group made it a fantastic, enjoyable and memorable holiday. The whole trip ran like clockwork due to the efforts of our guide( Rabi Gurung) and the sherpas and porters. We will definitely be using KE again.

This was a wonderful experience, especially as it was my first trip beyond the borders of Europe. Whilst ABC was the goal and the climax of the trek there was much of interest on the way - the forest varying with altitude and aspect finally giving way to scrub and grassland, the terraced farmland, the changing view of the snow-capped peaks ahead drawing us on. I would fully endorse KE's choice of an itinerary that includes Poon Hill (good acclimatisation and a spectacular sunrise) and also one that includes staying a night at ABC. It was numbingly cold but seeing the dawn break encircled by the majestic peaks was awesome (and I'm old enough not to use the word lightly!). Pasang was an excellent and cheerful guide, accommodating of our different paces and interests and no doubt doing a lot of unseen organising to ensure everything ran smoothly. He was a good source of information on the fauna, flora and farming of the area. He was very ably assisted by a great team of assistant guides and porters. Drinks were nearly always waiting for us when we stopped for a break. A bit of time to explore a little of Kathmandu, Braktapur and Patan before and after the trek only added to the overall truly memorable adventure. I am happy to recommend both this trip and KE (and their local agents) for their organisation. The loan down jacket and sleeping bag were both excellent and essential. This is a great trip for any reasonably fit hill walker (even if only occasional) with a love of landsc

I did this trek one week after the Yeti Mountain Home in the Everest region. I have been over parts of this route before (my 4th visit to the Annapurna massif) and was dreading the steps, the walk up to Ghorepani and the up and down nature of the trek. It was physically demanding, but well within the scope of any fit walker. The views from Ghorepani and in the Sanctuary are among the best I have ever seen. The lodges were OK. Our leader, Pasang, was excellent, ensuring that we were all cared for, that we had the medical assistance we needed. Tips: This is a 3 season trek, very hot for a few days, very cold in the Sanctuary. Having shorts, thin T Shirts is essential for the hot days. The walk up to Ghorepani is long and hot, many of us had energy bars to help us, plus some of us were affected by cramp, so plenty of water and rehydration salts (Diaralyte) were needed.

Our 1st trip to Nepal and a stunning experience. Raj was a great guide from the time he picked us up at the airport until the end of the tour. Pace of walking was perfect for acclimatization, weather was spectacular, mountains are without comparison. Highly recommended tour.
