Overview

Book
Armenia is one of Europe's most mountainous countries and this walking holiday in Armenia promises a veritable kaleidoscope of culture, history and great trekking. We start our excellent itinerary with a visit to several medieval monasteries, hiking on rugged trails between these fine examples of Armenian architecture and stopping off at mountain villages and on the shore of the vast Lake Sevan. After this splendid cultural introduction, we cross the Geghama Mountains on a 4-day trek that sees us hiking through flower-spangled meadows to the volcanic crater lakes on the summit of Mount Azhdahak (3597m). Then, transferring to a high camp on Mount Aragats, the high point of the country, where the views extend to Mount Ararat in the nearby Turkey. We climb to the southern summit on a long days walk, before return to Yerevan for our last night. This holiday includes a good selection of walks and seeing some of the many Christian churches that the country is famous for.

Our leader was an exceptionally kind and cultured man, who took everyone's interest at heart. He knew exactly how to encourage and give you moral support when needed, but let you do your own thing if you preferred and was capable of it. I most enjoyed the company of the other trekkers; good conversations; the combination of cultural visit with hard walking. All excellent, what more can I add?!

The final days walking up Aragats was one of the best days I've had in the mountains. Quite taxing, but with loads of variety and challenge. I loved swimming in the mountain lakes and the Noy brandy factory in Yerevan was great as well.

It was all great, especially the funny old Soviet hotel with the big blue sofas and grand piano in an otherwise large, vacant lobby. In contrast to the lovely new hotel on the riverside, with the pool and good wines and pleasing architecture. The trip was interesting - learned a lot about medieval Armenia. And the quality of the organization, logistics, food, and good company was great! Vahe, the Armenian leader was very good and Alison looked after us all with care and helpfulness. Thanks!

The office staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They handled the whole booking process very efficiently. I also liked the way that all my details were accessible online. A very high standard throughout the holiday. Excellent accommodation and excellent food - both in the hotels and when camping. I also liked the way that virtually everything was included in the overall price. The trip ran very efficient throughout. We were never kept waiting and all the arrangements went very smoothly. This is the first time I've travelled with youand I was extremely impressed with all aspects of the holiday. It was very well organised, there was a packed itinerary and everything was of a very high standard. After a couple of calamitous trips with another company it was impressive indeed. I would certainly travel with you again and I'd recommend them very highly to friends.

I'm extremely positive about this trip. The hotels were excellent. The food was great. The mess tent was the best I ever saw, lots of room and light and able to stand up everywhere. The leader, is one of the best I've encountered. I'm very enthusiastic about this trip. I like the mix of cultural sights and hiking.

Our leader, was brilliant. Is there a leader award? If so, can I nominate him please? His attention to detail was excellent, covering the country's history, culture, mountains and the walking requirements. His English was first class and still he makes an effort to continue to learn more. For me though, he also had an interest in the flora and endeavored to ensure that I saw what was available and enjoyed trying to identify plants that were unfamiliar. Best trip yet in terms of the support and helpfulness of the staff. It lived up to my expectations and beyond. Well done. Thanks for a really good trip.

One of our best treks - if only the weather on summit day had been kinder. The trek was even more remote, the scenery even more beautiful, the food even better. Our daughter even got to speak some Russian with the understanding guide and crew. We have used your company several times before and have always been impressed.

Excellent trek leader, very experienced and competent - also sensitive and caring. Very knowledgeable about his country, its history and culture and very willing to share this with us. Most enjoyed - it was great to be trekking in a "living" landscape, walking amongst the local herders, their flocks and encampments.

This was a very good trip with an exceptional guide. He is more of a scholar than a traditional adventure travel guide. He provided details, history and provenance for all sites seen. There were extra travel treats like a monastery built into the side of a mountain while on a trail, a trip to an amazing bread bakery. The accommodations and food were exceptional. Rare I eat so well on a trip! And, as I am vegetarian the staff went out of their way to cater to my needs.
