Overview

Book
A classic one week walking holiday adventure in the Alps from Chamonix in France to Zermatt in Switzerland. Continuing our theme of 'The Best Of' Alpine walking routes, we now offer the classic walker's route from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn within a 8-day holiday. Using short transfers to by-pass the least interesting sections of this classic route and by avoiding the technical section of the Europaweg, we have made this classic 'Walker's Haute Route' available to non-alpinists who wish to trek amongst incredibly beautiful Alpine scenery within a week's leave. This superb alpine trekking holiday takes a linear route across the spine of the European Alps and links together the famous mountaineering towns of Chamonix and Zermatt.

Trekking from France into the beautiful Swiss canton of Valais, passing spectacularly beneath 10 of the 12 highest peaks in the Alps, we are treated to amazing views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Traversing several high and challenging passes, we enjoy mountain walking in the Alps at its most delightful. Lower down, we pass through verdant Alpine valleys with cascading streams, pretty hamlets and flower-strewn meadows. Overnight accommodation on this great trekking holiday adventure in the Alps is provided in a variety of small hotels, atmospheric gites and spectacularly located Alpine mountain refuges. Led by English guides and fully supported, with access to luggage on all but 2 nights, this holiday offers nothing less than the best of the best in the Alps.

    • The Walker`s Haute Route from France to Switzerland

Much harder walking than I anticipated but managed to keep with the group (as did my wife- I am 58 yrs and my wife is 54 - both very active cycling/running/walking dogs , we have been walking in the Alps before several times including TMB). Elaine was an excellent guide who managed a small group very well throughout, didn't make things sound worse than they could be or sugarcoat the has hilly bits ( said exactly how things were ahead on the route and predicted walking time /distances spot on). My wife was the only other female in the group and found Elaine a good friend throughout. Trip was basically through Switzerland and I found that Euros were acceptable throughout (even in mountain Cabins), so I needn't have changed my large amount of Euros (from a skiing holiday earlier in the year )into swiss francs as advised by KE. Switzerland is a lot more expensive than when we visited 3 years ago !

This is an inspiring and challenging journey-of-discovery that covers snow-capped peaks, awesome glaciers, lush green valleys and impossibly blue lakes. Two or three days require good levels of fitness so it's worth preparing accordingly. Sophie the mountain guide taught us a huge amount about the geology, geography and plant life, as well as providing great tips on safe, high Alpine trekking. Some huts/hotels were better than others, but the food was always great.

Not being comfortable on computers, I phoned the office staff and they helped me through the booking process. They could not have been more helpful and professional. Our trip leader was very professional with our safety coming first. One day there was unexpected overnight snowfall, we walked for 1 hour, then Alison pointed out that the route was becoming dangerous. We turned back and Alison organised transport to our destination. This is my third trip with KE with one more to look forward to this year. Would recommend KE to anyone looking for a well organised holiday.

Our guide, Lindsay, was very experienced and made clear what we needed and provided interesting information throughout trek. Hotels were better than I ever expected. Food at Yeti Lodge was top class. Some days were quite hard, (long ascents). I like your policy on spelling out how fit you need to be.
