Overview

Book
This spectacular circuit trek will take us all the way to Bhutan's Chomolhari Base Camp and across 3 high passes in under 2 weeks, what's more we've also time for sightseeing in bustling Kathmandu and idyllic Paro, famous for the dramatic, cliff-side Taktsang Monastery. Arriving into Paro from Kathmandu, Nepal, our stunning trek takes us north of Paro, deep into the valley of the Paro Chu. This quiet and pristine valley provides a passage between the Himalayan foothills and the towering white peaks on the border with Tibet. Our route follows the river upstream for 3 days to the meadows at Jangothang, the basecamp for Chomolhari (7326m), a sacred peak on the border of Bhutan and Tibet. Then, after a day for exploration and acclimatisation above this camp, we turn away from the valley trail and climb to the picturesque Tsho Phu lakes. From here, we ascend to cross the airy Bonte La (4890m), where we'll enjoy some increasingly impressive views of Chomolhari and the imposing spire of Jitchu Drake. Now at high level, we trek via hidden valleys and along scenic ridges to reach our stunning campsite on the yak pastures of Thongbu, before descending on herders' trails to Drugyel Dzong. Very few trekking groups complete this superb circuit, which is undoubtably one of the best short treks in Bhutan. We end our holiday by returning to Kathmandu where we also have time for a city sightseeing tour before heading home.

Additional Acclimatisation Day for 2018!
In autumn 2017 we successfully introduced an excellent additional acclimatisation day/trek up to visit the Hermits Cave, just prior to arriving at Chomolhari Basecamp. Not only is this a culturally interesting visit to an area rarely visited by trekkers, it is also a fantastic aid to acclimatisation that will help prepare you for the rest of your trekking holiday.

BOOK EARLY for BHUTAN! With only two airlines operating flights into Paro from Kathmandu, seats are limited and in high demand. Book early to guarantee your place on your chosen departure. We strongly advise booking a year in advance where possible.

I couldn't fault the guide. He is an excellent guide , very articulate . He was able to discuss all sorts of cultural and religious beliefs with the group. Although difficult, the passes were not quite as bad as I had imagined they would be. I think this was in part due to the excellent time allowed for acclimatization. I loved the scenery , and I loved the country . I also greatly enjoyed the flowering plants on the trek. We were rewarded with great views of Chomolhari, especially on the morning of my birthday. The cake and gift made it a day to really remember.

A superb trek that lived up to its billing as one of the best short treks. The guides were knowledgeable (who knew there were that many stories about the divine madman?!), friendly and determined to give us the best experience of Bhutan. Helped by a friendly, hard working trek crew we were well looked after throughout. The festival and 'sightseeing' aspects of the trip were also enjoyable and if you can go when a festival coincides with the trip I would recommend it.

Thimpu festival.... excellent Head uncovered was a problem with sun danger. Noted that locals were able to cover with woven cloth wrap that is part of national dress. Would buy and take one next time. Trek ... top quality tent , food , kit and guide. Mules in first class condition and calm. Local company partner superb.
