Overview

Book
Following a route trekked by Lord Curzon in 1905 and by Shipton and Tilman 30 years later, this excellent adventure trekking holiday traverses the western edge of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. After our first day of trekking, we reach the spectacular meadow of Bedni Bugyal, a famously scenic location with a skyline dominated to the north-west by the peaks of Trisul (7120m) and Nanda Ghunti. A further week of superb foothills trekking takes us through forest and farmland and by way of a series of ridges, the last of which we cross at the Kuari Pass (3650m). Changabang, Kamet and Nanda Devi are just 3 of the India Himalayan giants visible from this sublime viewpoint. En route back to Delhi, we have time to experience the magic of Rishikesh and Haridwar and to attend the 'arti' (floating lamp) ceremony on the Ganges. This is a great trek and an unforgettable journey into the mystical Hindu territory of Garhwal.

Highlights

    • Trek in the footsteps of Shipton and Tilman
    • Spectacular camping places and great views of Nanda Devi
    • Explore Rishikesh and see the sacred River Ganges
    • Extensions available to the Taj Mahal and Agra

The camping experience and support crew ensured that this trek was a great success. Their speed, efficiency was excellent. Our leader was very experienced, he had great rapport with the support team, and his understanding of the language and culture is a great asset.

A very enjoyable trip, espeically the Kauri Pass and the spectacular walk out on the last day. It's my 26th trek with you since I started travelling with you in 1985.

Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. Overwhelmed by the level of support from the trek team and tour leader. As a local leader he was excellent with local knowledge as well as an excellent awareness of the needs of the group. He was particularly supportive where members of the group had off days. The trek crew were very well organised and worked really well as a team - they couldn't do enough for us as guests. Loved the mix of seeing India's culture, village life as well as the spectacular Himalayan scenery.

As usual we are not disappointed. You are second to none. Special thanks to Lucy for helping us choose this holiday. A beautiful, thrilling trek. Perhaps the most leisurely we have ever done.We never felt under any pressure and there was always plenty of time to take photos and take in the amazing views. The trails were particularly beautiful but the icing on the cake was the amazing airy traverse on the last day. The weather was great too! The first time we have managed to wash clothes and get them dry! Also to have a dry trek towel was luxury in the extreme.Raj Kumar and assistant cook Sanchaman Rai must be the best cook in the world. Many and varied delicious dishes appeared each day. The birthday cakes were incredible. The tents are spacious and good quality. The Florence Inn is clean and comfortable and the food is excellent I cannot praise the guide enough. He was a delight. He is extremely well educated, his English is impeccable, he is totally unflappable. He loves his country and is very knowledgeable about all aspects, environment, politics, cultural variations etc. I have never learned so much about India as I did in this trek. Perhaps I was fortunate that being at the back most of the time we were able to ask the guide questions. There was a great deal of interaction with local villagers on this trek and they were invaluable for translation. It appears that not many white trekkers pass this way, which wa s refreshing, we were as much a so

This was an excellent trek in a relatively unspoilt part of northern India. Whilst not going above 4000m we had wonderful views of the snow clad Himalaya, especially from the balcony path on the last day. We were a small group of 7 and all got on well together. The crew were very good and ably led by our lovely leader for whom nothing was too much trouble. Apart from 1 day when we experienced torrential rain, thunder, lightning, snow and hail, the weather was ideal-warm and sunny. The stays in Rishikesh and Haridwar on our return were fascinating.
