Overview

Book
This superb lodge-based trekking holiday makes a complete high-level circuit of the Khumbu and crosses 3 major passes to link the valleys of Thame, Gokyo, Khumbu and Imja Khola. From Namche Bazaar, we follow the course of the Bhote Khosi towards Tibet, before turning eastwards to cross the spectacular Renjo La (5340m). We then spend 2 nights in the Gokyo Valley with a free day to trek up-valley to the 'Fifth Lake' and the option to hike to  the top of Gokyo Ri. Crossing the Ngozumpa Glacier, we then hike up and over the Cho La (5420m) to reach Everest Basecamp and the dramatic viewpoint summit of Kala Patar (5550m).

Our walk out takes us by way of the Kongma La (5535m) before joining the Everest Trail and continuing to descend via the villages of Dingboche and Pangboche and the monastery of Tengboche. Running this circuit of the main passes of Khumbu in a clockwise direction means we can build up our acclimatisation on uncrowded trails and in the unspoiled valley of the Bhote Kosi, leaving Everest Basecamp as the climax of the trip and also means we spend a minimum amount of time on the popular Everest Trail. For experienced trekkers who want to visit Everest Basecamp but wish to eschew the crowds and experience authentic Sherpa culture, this holiday really does have it all.

Highlights

    • A high level circuit trek exploring the homeland of the Sherpas
    • Trekking over the Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La
    • Climb the viewpoint peaks of Gokyo Ri and Kala Patar

This was an incredible trip. We had a great group, which I know is a blessing when you have this many strangers coming together to spend the next several weeks together! We became like family in many ways...looking out for each other, checking in on those you did not feel well, sharing precious kleenex and tiolet paper! The cooks even baked and decorated a cake for a couple who exchanged wedding vows on the trip!

Our leader was by far the best trip leader I've been with ever! her knowledge and support in both medical and physical matters was absolutely superb and seeing as I started the trip with the remains of a chest infection and cough I'm pretty sure that without her help and medical advice I might not have made it at all. An all round top person.

Our leader, is a star and made our holiday unforgettable. My wife and I can't thank him enough for making our holiday so memorable. He was a brilliant leader helpful, kind, very knowledgeable about the area and very passionate about trekking in the Himalayas and yes even he was still blown away by the views during the trip he is a top man. My wife works in the travel industry and has met people from you at various events and was impressed by what you offer. We then visited your office and where impressed by your knowledgeable staff whom advised us on our choice of trip.

Just want to say thank you again for making my dream come true, the trip was AMAZING!! I would recommend anytime. I most enjoyed the fact we got off the main tourist paths and saw more than just Everest Basecamp. Crew: first day of trek seemed a little unorganised but for the rest of the trip the crew (all of them) were just fantastic, so caring, cheerful, full of energy and knowledge. Language never a barrier as we all tried our best. I cannot commend them enough. looked after us so well and even at the end of the day w hen we were all tired they still helped us. They were a cheerful face every morning too. Our leader was extremly caring and genuinly interested in each of us. Good to talk to and she had a very hard job. On the ball and made quick decisions. At points it would have been nice to walk along individually however this wasn't an option. Only down side was the early starts and on one occasion a heated discussion which she dealt with very well when she had a problem with a sherpa though may be it should have been dealt with away from us but she apologised etc. She really was just fantastic and even though we were a group of runners etc she was so fit and had stamina. When i was ill she helped me a lot but also knew when to leave us alone.

Our leader is an outstanding leader, by far the best I have come across on any trek. Both his technical and people-management skills are excellent.

The route of the trip was great and it was a pleasure to leave the main drag and head somewhat off the beaten track. This led to a true feeling of peacefulness and solitude which is of course one of the things to look for when heading into the mountains.

What can I say about our leader? She is just about the most amazing person I have EVER met. She was really attentive to the needs and well being of all the clients and support crew throughout the whole trek. Constantly ensuring that we consumed enough fluids every day to help with acclimatisation, and that we always felt 100%. She made sure we all ate plenty of food, even when we didn't really feel like it, but knew we needed it. She was really enthusiastic and not only showed us the majestic mountain scenery of the Himalayas, she took us into the homes of her "extended nepali families", which was a huge cultural experience for us all. I will never forget the families we met. Overall, we could not have asked for a better leader than her. Her experience, knowledge of the area, and personal friends she imparted upon us, turned a trip of a life time into a life changing trip. I cannot stress enough the huge respect and heartfelt thanks I have for our leader, for making my holiday magical. If I had to rate my level of satisfaction with the whole holiday, I would give it 100 out of 10!! It far exceeded ALL my expectations, and the memories will always live with me.Did I enjoy the holiday??? YOU BET!!

Stunning route with a schedule (and difficulty rating) above a straight Everest Base Camp walk up - addition of the 3 high passes definitely makes for some demanding days! Overall, for somebody reasonably fit, I wouldn't say it's too strenuous though. The scenes, sights and perspectives are nothing short of spectacularly beautiful, one truly does walk in the land of the giants. Acclimatisation schedule is spot on, and few of us suffered with any symptoms. Watch out for the "Khumbu cough" though!.. which a couple of the team came down with - a result of the combined dry air, altitude and some long days. Sleeping conditions in the tea houses are comfortable and the Nepali's are the most gracious and welcoming of hosts. Prepare yourself for a continuous Himalayan diet of soup, mo-mo's (fried dumplings), macaroni, pasta, and largely vegetarian additions. Might spot some prawn crackers later in the trip! Definitely take some spending money for some treats, wifi and phone / camera charges and remember that these get progressively more expensive as you move away from Namche. Overall, I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. The Sherpa guides and their respective teams are excellent, everything is well organised, accommodation comfortable, and sights breathtaking. Couldn't ask for much more, and this is a trip I will remember for life.
