Overview

Book
We begin our Grand Canyon journey by dory with our put-in at Lees Ferry, Arizona starting out in the slow moving rapids of the Colorado River, increasing each day in size and intensity until we meet up with the big whitewater below, including the infamous Crystal Rapid and Lava Falls . In between whitewater rapids, the slower water gives way for quiet moments of Grand Canyon story telling, geologic and natural history, and pure tranquility. The canyon experience, however, is not just about whitewater. It's really all about the side canyons that trickle into the main section of the Grand Canyon. This section combines the scenic wonders of the Upper Canyon's vibrant limestone cliffs, Anasazi ruins, Nautiloid fossils, stream-carved alcoves, and petroglyphs, with the Lower Canyon's crystalline waterfalls, fern-covered fairyland, layers of rock rising and falling, and turquoise pools. On the last morning of the trip, you board a helicopter for the rim and then on to Las Vegas via small plane.

This section of the Colorado River combines the scenic wonders of the Upper Canyon's vibrant limestone cliffs, Anasazi ruins, Nautiloid fossils, stream-carved alcoves, and petroglyphs, with the Lower Canyon's big whitewater, crystalline waterfalls, fern-covered fairyland, layers of rock rising and falling, and turquoise pools. The trip begins with moderate rapids that grow larger each day, allowing you to become familiar with the boats movement through the rapids. Below Phantom Ranch are some of the biggest rapids in the canyon as well as some long stretches of peaceful floating. We cap it off by running the notorious huge rapid of Lava Falls - North America's most renowned big drop.

Tougher Than an Old Boot

I am very impressed with this operator and their guides and crew. They have vast experience and incredible skill and passion for what they do, and an abiding respect for the Grand Canyon. It is so well organized with attention to detail, and you begin to realize all involved in complicated decisions the leader makes daily on the river. Much thought and careful consideration goes in to life on the river. The respect, admiration and reverence on the river for our trip leader was awe inspiring. Everyone had an intention to provide us with a most spectacular experience, including tons of laughter and playfulness, while also inspiring us to take action and care to protect the majestic Grand Canyon. For sure a trip of a life time.
