Overview

Book
Beginning at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, you hike 9.7 miles deep into the canyon down the beautiful Bright Angel Trail where we meet you at the Colorado River's edge. After repacking your river gear, we launch our dories and head straight into the biggest rapids of all on the Colorado to finish the Upper Granite Gorge section of whitewater. Following this exciting start, we experience a relaxing week of visiting beautiful side streams and falls, watching the rock layers rise and fall and running some of the larger Colorado River rapids fairly regularly. Spectacular side hikes pierce the shadows of the deep Inner Gorge of the Canyon: the emerald paradise of Elves Chasm, the 100-foot drop of Deer Creek Falls , limestone chutes of Matkatamiba Canyon , blue-green pools and numerous waterfalls of Havasu Canyon , and many others. We cap off by running the notorious Lava Falls - North America 's and the Grand Canyon's most renowned big drop. On the final day we arrive at Whitmore Wash where a helicopter whisks you to the rim to continue by small plane back to Las Vegas.

The trip begins at the South Rim with your hike into the canyon down the beautiful Bright Angel Trail. Spectacular side hikes pierce the shadows of the deep Inner Gorge: the emerald paradise of Elves Chasm, the 100-foot drop of Deer Creek Falls, limestone chutes of Matkatamiba Canyon, blue-green pools and numerous waterfalls of Havasu Canyon, and many others. The crew made this trip - great professionalism in running the rapids. The attitude and experiences of the staff made the trip and bonding with the customers made it fun for everyone. The side canyons, the Colorado geology and the great camping experiences are a lifetime event.

This was a perfect family vacation in every sense. We enjoyed each others' company as well as that of the other guests and the river guides. We were blown away by the guides' knowledge and abilities to take care of each of us. The only way to see and KNOW the Grand Canyon is to spend a week exploring all that it offers. One suggestion -- add a day to this particular trip. There is so much to see and do in that middle stretch of the river, and sometimes we felt a bit rushed. We needed a bit more time to truly absorb everything we saw!

The Grand Canyon is awesome and the dories along with the experience/passion of the guides really brought it to life. We enjoyed the rapids and the flatwater stretches but the most fun were the side trips into canyons, waterfalls, hikes and the amazing Havasu creek.

Every one of the guides on the trip was excellent. They were fun, knowledgable and safety concious. They all worked very hard to ensure the passengers had a fabulous time. And they succeeded! And they even regaled us with music several nights around the campfire. The best trip I have ever taken.

If you're thinking about this trip, just DO IT! It was the most exciting week of my life, with a variety and adventures and misadventures that made it more than memorable. The guides (Sean, Jeff, Fabry, Chelsea) were wonderful personable people, who were amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. We had the experience of flipping a dory, but there was no problem as the safety talk that Jeff gave provided all the information we needed to safely right the boat. I considered that to be one of the highlights of the trip, as I never felt in danger. The views the canyon offers are legendary, nothing more to say about that. The food was great, it's amazing what the guides can produce with a propane stove and a dutch oven. We saw motor tours with 15-20 passengers riding on a giant inflatable raft. It reminded me of a giant Disney ride, not fun at all. If you want the full experience of the river the dories are the only way to go.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on our eight day dory river trip, both on the river as well as on each day's optional hiking trip. Between the waterfalls and the rapids there were always daily surprises to enjoy. We were impressed with our guides who were not only experienced on the river but were also very knowledgeable about the canyon itself including its geology and history. All of the personnel worked extremely hard to ensure our trip was an amazing one and it worked!

I have NEVER camped or HIKED! This was on my bucket list and I had a very easy time persuading my ex-Marine husband , sister in law and her husband to do this. We trained and hiked and lost weight, thank heavens! The hike down was exhausting but fun. Day 2 was the best with all the rapids. I enjoyed every minute of this trip. It was gorgeous and unbelievable all the time. Duffy, Kurstin, Allisa and J I'm were the PERFECT guides. Their knowledge was unbelievable of the canyon, geology and history. You have to read "There's this River" , short stories of river guides , our crew knew most of the people in the stories. John and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary in the canyon surrounded by our new friends, serenaded and a pineapple upside down cake. Best anniversary ever. Bathing in the river was so freeing! The ladies had a blast! No way will we ever top this experience. I may not ever camp again but I would do this trip again with this crew in a heart beat! The dories are the ONLY way to go! no one was taking pictures of the people in rafts. Fabulous experience. LOVED every minute!
