Overview

Book
This shorter section of the Colorado River is a good trial for folks not sure they are ready for a longer river trip. We meet you in Las Vegas and transport you by van and small plane to the Bar 10 Ranch in Arizona for an afternoon of ranch activities including horseback riding, horseshoe pitching, hiking, and skeet shooting finished with an evening of country entertainment.

The next morning you fly by helicopter into the Grand Canyon where your whitewater river guides await your arrival at Whitmore Wash. We'll cross the shattered Hurricane fault zone before heading west into the final majesty of the Lower Grand Canyon. This dory trip affords an opportunity to hike and explore this exquisite desert wonderland by foot. Several beautiful side canyons invite you to linger in spring-fed streams. Your Grand Canyon adventure ends with a jet boat ride across Lake Mead from where we return to Las Vegas by van.

This trip is a good introduction to the canyon for those who dont have the time for a longer trip or are making this their first experience to get their feet wet. The trip begins with a flight from Las Vegas to one of Arizonas oldest working cattle ranches, Bar 10 Ranch. Located on the northern rim of the Grand Canyon, the ranch offers many activities including horseback riding, skeet shooting, horseshoes, hiking, ATV (additional charge), and more. The next day you fly into the canyon by helicopter and board the boats. This stretch of the Colorado offers broader, more open views of the Grand Canyon and contains relatively modest rapids compared to the giants upstream, but still provides fun whitewater We float through spectacular scenery in the Hurricane fault zone before heading west into the final majesty of the Lower Granite Gorge. On the last morning youll board a jet boat to take you past the Grand Wash Cliffs and on to Lake Mead.

In 1983 I did a trip on the Green River with my then 14 year old son and since that time have wanted to do a trip in the Grand Canyon. After reading an article in Outside magazine it gave me the impetus to pick up the phone and book the Whitmore Wash to Lake Mead trip. I was joined by my niece who has become a great travel companion. From our initial pick up at the airport in Las Vegas until we were handed off to the shuttle driver at the Lake Mead take out point our every need was met. The time at the Bar 10 was such fun, the young people very enthusiastic and that was balanced by the sage humor of Garth, the older gentlemen who was MC for the evening program and resident cowboy expert. The helicopter flight into the canyon was a thrill that won't soon be forgotten. Our initial meeting with the guides and a safety chat and it was onto the river. It is difficult to find words that describe the Grand Canyon from the river....so I won't try...you just need to experience it for yourself. On our trip the group was small but I am certain that even a full group would receive the same attention to detail that we did. The food is outstanding and it is great fun to enjoy the camaraderie of the guides as they prepare meals or just interact with each other, it is obvious that they love what they do. Do to some balance issues I took a book and planned on sitting out the hikes. However, with the assistance of the guides I was able to do some side hikes and get away from the river to explo

Worth every penny. We stayed an extra day at the Bar 10 Ranch and that was well worth it. More time for horseback riding and ATV fun. The helicopter ride was great. The views, oh the views! The guides were great; they really made it fun. And even though it was pouring rain on the first afternoon, it was a great experience. I'm actually glad it did rain like that and I got to experience it; the rain sure created some great temporary waterfalls. On my next trip I plan to go through a different section of the Colorado river (more rapids); and next time my 15 year old son is coming along. I have never gone camping before, and I must say, I now get why people go camping! However, I must say that if I do it again, I would like the combination of whitewater and camping. PS: I will leave out the story behind the nickname, let's just say Mother Nature can be wild and this trip was adventurous.

We booked this trip based on reviews of other trips offered and looked forward to wonderful Canyon river ride for almost one and a half years. The night we spent at the Bar 10 ranch was fun and peaceful, but if you are expecting this ranch experience to match that of the photos in this website, you will be disappointed. The second day began with a wonderful helicopter ride to the put-in point at Whitmore Wash. The guides were just droppong off guests from the upper river, so getting organized was a bit of challenge for them, but they handled it well. This time gave us a chance to meet the rest of the guests we were travelling with -- we were only a party of two. There was a family of four; there was a family of six, and to complete our party was a family of seven. We finally embarked on our river tour, the two of us and two other folks that balanced out our dorie. When we arrived at our camp sight that night, the guides (ten total) seemed to be a little more interested in indulging in their adult beverages rather than focusing on guests needs. My partner and I took advantage of the beer and wine offer, as you could purchase your beverage of choice prior to the trip. Every person in our party, along with the guides, had at least two, if not three "beverages" before we recieved ours. We had to ask the guides at least four times before they finally produced the items we had purchased. During that evening, the family of six (a husband, wife, two kids, the wife's father a

First time experience in the Grand Canyon. Their guides and support team were incredible. Well seasoned rowers. Andre was an added plus with his knowledge of the geology of the Grand Canyon. Steve, another rower/guide, entertained us with poetry. overall, I couldn't have been more satisfied with the entire trip.

Absolutely fantastic. Traveled with our 3 adult boys and all of us loved the experience. The Grand Canyon itself is a journey to behold, but the people made the difference. This group was experienced, well organized, communicative, educational, and most of all - great fun! I highly recommend this- get used to sleeping under the stars and waking up early for the best views of a lifetime. I admire the passion of the guides- leader Andre, Joe- new but so great! Steve-poet and expert, Cory- smarta** and funloving guide and team- Travis, Abby, Ave, Jake, Kyle, Melinda- and their dedication to making this trip meaningful for us and them! I can't thank them enough for my extraordinary vacation!

From booking to the bus ride back to the airport they knocked it out of the park. My wife and I took our 2 19 year old daughters on what turned out to be a trip of a lifetime. Very well organized, best camp food ever, well educated staff and great gear. The staff was super helpful but you still set up your own tent and participated enough so you felt as an active participant. If the opportunity arises we will book through this outfitter again.

The guides were fantastic and viewing the canyon from the river is a unique experience. We took my 11 year old, and my 71 year old father in law, and everyone had a great time. The food on the trip is very good, the hikes take a little effort, but not so difficult that kids can't handle them, and the entire experience of solitude and adventure is highly recommended.
