Overview

Book
Your Grand Canyon rafting trip begins near Phantom Ranch after a scenic 9.7-mile hike down the Bright Angel Trail from the South Rim. A mile deep into the Grand Canyon, we launch our rafts and immediately head straight into some of the most notorious rapids in the Canyon: Horn Creek, Granite, Hermit, and Crystal all packed into the first two exciting days of our Grand Canyon adventure. We watch the rock layers of the Canyons steep walls rise and fall, twist and turn and change from vibrant shades to dark lava hues. Side canyons suddenly appear, begging to be explored. Our hikes into the Grand Canyons recesses take us to oases of tempting pools lined with maidenhair ferns, spectacular plunging waterfalls, Anasazi petroglyphs, and more. Incredible scenery and plenty of other Colorado River rapids including Lava Falls, Americas most infamous big drop fill the 192 miles of the lower half with thrills. Below Lava Falls the Grand Canyon narrows one last time as we enter the Lower Granite Gorge. A jet boat meets us on our last day to take us the final distance to Lake Mead and our van back to Flagstaff and civilization.

After hiking 9.7 miles into the canyon from the South Rim, we go straight into the biggest rapids of all to finish the Upper Granite Gorge. Horn Creek, Granite, Hermit, and Crystal rapids are all packed into the first two exciting days. Incredible scenery and spectacular side hikes pierce the shadows. Our itinerary may include the emerald paradise of Elves Chasm, the 100-foot drop of Deer Creek Falls, limestone chutes of Matkatamiba Canyon, blue-green pools and numerous waterfalls of Havasu Canyon, and many others. Once weve conquered the ominous Lava Falls, the canyon narrows one last time as we enter the Lower Granite Gorge. A jet boat meets us on our last day to take us to Lake Mead and our van back to Flagstaff.

The Day Before Your Trip. . .

Arrive at the South Rim. Deliver your duffel to the Livery Barn (see Duffel Drop-off below). Purchase your breakfast and snacks including at least two quarts of water for your hike the next day. Well meet at 7:00 PM. in the lobby of the Maswik Lodge on the South Rim in Grand Canyon National Park. You will have the opportunity to meet your hike escort, others on your trip, and ask any last-minute questions about the hike.

Duffel Drop-off at the South Rim

Your duffel needs to be dropped off at the Livery Barn at the South Rim by 4:00 PM the day prior to your hike into the canyon. The Livery Barn is located near the railroad tracks at the South Rim. If you exit the Bright Angel Lodge on the south side (not the rim side) and look straight out across the railroad tracks, you will see a very large barn and corral with mules. This is the Livery Barn. If for some reason you miss the deadline of 4:00 PM., please call the Xanterra Switchboard (928-638-2631) for instructions. A $10 additional charge (late fee) will be collected for late duffel pick-up, per call, not per duffel.
