Overview

Book
Beginning your Grand Canyon adventure at the South Rim, you hike 9.7 miles down the beautiful Bright Angel Trail where we meet you at the Colorado Rivers edge. After repacking your gear, we hop into our rafts and head straight into some of the biggest Grand Canyon whitewater rapids in the upper Granite Gorge. This exciting start to our Grand Canyon rafting adventure is followed by a week of visiting beautiful side streams and falls, watching the rock layers rise and fall and running fairly large rapids regularly. Spectacular side hikes pierce the shadows of the deep Inner Gorge: The emerald paradise of Elves Chasm, the 100-foot drop of Deer Creek Falls, the limestone chutes of Matkatamiba Canyon, the blue-green pools and numerous waterfalls of Havasu Canyon, and many other unique Grand Canyon adventures. We finish our journey by rafting the notorious Lava Falls North Americas most renowned big drop. On the final day, we arrive at Whitmore Wash where a helicopter whisks you to the rim to continue by small plane and van back to Las Vegas.

The trip begins at the South Rim with your hike into the canyon down the beautiful Bright Angel Trail. We meet you at the river's edge and immediately head straight into some of the most celebrated rapids: Horn Creek, Granite, Hermit, and Crystal are all packed into the first two exciting days. Spectacular side hikes pierce the shadows of the deep Inner Gorge: the emerald paradise of Elves Chasm, the 100-foot drop of Deer Creek Falls, limestone chutes of Matkatamiba Canyon, blue-green pools and numerous waterfalls of Havasu Canyon, and many others. We finish off by running the notorious Lava Falls - North America's most renowned big drop.

The Day Before Your Trip. . .

Arrive at the South Rim. Deliver your duffel to the Livery Barn (see Duffel Drop-off below). Purchase your breakfast and snacks including at least two quarts of water for your hike the next day. Well meet at 7:00 PM in the lobby of the Maswik Lodge on the South Rim in Grand Canyon National Park. You will have the opportunity to meet your hike escort, others on your trip, and ask any last-minute questions about the hike.

Duffel Drop-off at the South Rim

Your duffel needs to be dropped off at the Livery Barn at the South Rim by 4:00 PM the day prior to your hike into the canyon. The Livery Barn is located near the railroad tracks at the South Rim. If you exit the Bright Angel Lodge on the south side (not the rim side) and look straight out across the railroad tracks, you will see a very large barn and corral with mules. This is the Livery Barn. If for some reason you miss the deadline of 4:00 PM., please call the Xanterra Switchboard (928-638-2631) for instructions. A $10 additional charge (late fee) will be collected for late duffel pick-up, per call, not per duffel.

This was my life list trip and it was everything I hoped for. I'm not a 'water person' but I love the Grand Canyon and wanted to experience it from the river. The white water was exciting and adventurous but the guides were experienced and professional. The rapids were run expertly. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful opportunity to engage in the grandness of the Canyon; experience the majesty of the the earth and the insignificance of humanity while meeting and living with new friends...lots of complexity, simplicity, beauty and and starkness, hot and cold, relaxation and exhilaration all tied into one trip.

I recently completed a rafting trip of the Grand Canyon from Phantom Ranch to Whitmore Wash. It was an amazing trip, due to the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, but also due to the professionalism of our exceptional guides and the well-oiled machinery with which they conduct their tours. I brought my teen-age grandson, who had never been to the West. It was a trip of a lifetime for him. Trips like this can be life changing, especially for a young person, immersed in two billion years of canyon history, completely surrounded by nature, sans cell-phones! The guides were incredible in informing us at every opportunity of interesting geological, sociological, historical and biological aspects of the canyon. But above and beyond this, they were just plain fun to be with! We cooled ourselves in countless waterfalls, challenged ourselves on long hikes, even a little rock maneuvering, and "ooed and awed" over amazing rapids. I was frankly afraid of white-water prior to the trip, but they navigate their rafts with such skill, that I actually started looking forward to the wild waters! Thank you for making this adventure such a remarkable experience for my grandson and me.

This was our second trip, with the first trip being through the Cataract Canyon in 2014. That trip inspired us to do the Grand Canyon trip, which did not disappoint! Our expectations were quite high given our awesome experience in Cataract, and this GC trip somehow exceeded those expectations. The hike in was long, but was absolutely amazing given the scenery. I can't think of a better way to start the trip than seeing the GC from above and then venturing down into it. Our guide for the hike, John, was knowledgeable about the environment and encouraging along the way. Our first two full days on the river were through some of the largest whitewater on the Colorado (Crystal, Hermit, Horn Creek). Our guides did an awesome job of navigating through these and hitting the bigger waves, which resulted in some exciting runs. The rest of the trip included hikes to some very scenic spots (Elves Chasm, Havasu, Thunder River), as well as more white water. Our guides were awesome. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the canyon, geology, wildlife, vegetation, etc. They were also very personable and just a blast to be around (we finally convinced my husband to let Corey paint his toenails). And they can whip up the best meals to be found! We are still amazed at how they can create these meals at camp day in and day out. While the Grand Canyon is a spectacular place to visit, the guides themselves really made the trip special. A special thank you to Chelsea,

Our family returned about a month ago from the absolute trip of a lifetime - eight days in the Grand Canyon, down the Colorado from Phantom Ranch to Whitmore Wash. I had done this trip 30 years ago with friends, and it has stayed at the top of my list of favorite things I have ever done, ANYWHERE in the world! (And I've done a few things). I wondered if the same trip with OARS so many years later could possibly be anything close to the same amazing adventure it was before. Answer: it absolutely was...in SPADES! Trip leader, Scottie Stevens, was incredibly professional and great fun, and worked seamlessly with awesome guides Curtis and Billie, and Shooter, Sean and Duncan in the gear boats. Each one of these dedicated people was so caring, capable, and absolutely committed to each person having the best possible experience. And their knowledge of the canyon's geology, history and wildlife was exceptional. We fell in love with these guys and fully expect to be having some kind of adventure with them again one day. I was not the oldest on the trip at age 65 (two single women older than I were there by themselves), and I started out a wee bit nervous, but ended the trip feeling stronger than when I began and not ready to go home! Each day brought a fabulous new adventure, the face of the canyon changing as we moved. Each camp site had its own special beauty and personality, and boy did that kitchen go up fast and the next tasty meal begin to be busily prepared. Hot breakfasts and

Our guides were very friendly and knoweldgable. Their love of their jobs made the trip that much more enjoyable. The sweeper on the trail down was very helpful in assisting those that were having trouble with the heat of the hike. The food was exceptional and we were amazed daily by the fresh fruits and vegetable even 14 days in! The rapids weren't quite as intense as we were expecting, but Lava Falls was worth the wait. The hike down was difficult, but I don't think one can say they've seen the Canyon without taking this trip. The trip kept on giving when we ended with a helicopter ride out of the canyon, a pre arranged flight to Vegas, and transportation to our hotel upon our arrival!

My family just returned from six glorious days rafting the Colorado River in the Grand Canyou with OARS. It was a trip that we had dreamed of for many years, and the folks at OARS did a fabulous job of helping us realize our dream. The Canyon and the River are absolutely incredible, and our OARS trip leader and guides were just outstanding. They did countless small things that all made the trip better in too many ways to count. I can recommend them without re

The trip down the Grand Canyon is extremely well planned and the guides have the needed experience. We were lucky that the entire group (though very diverse in ages and backgrounds) got along extremely well. The scenery; the hikes; the white-water experience and the relaxation at the end of the day are Priceless.
