Overview

Book
The god Apollo himself was born on these islands, so could there be a more appropriate place for a holiday? The Greek islands are home to a wealth of ancient history, incredible food and sun-kissed locals eager to toast your arrival with a glass of ouzo. Soak up the million dollar views of the Cyclades while relaxing on Santorini, stroll through the lush gardens of Crete, and discover the old world charm of Mykonos’ famous white streets. Whether you’re searching for tumbledown ruins and ancient myths, or simply a stretch of sand by the Mediterranean to read a book, Greece has it all in spades.

Highlights

    • Take part in an Athenian feast in the pulsing Psiri neighbourhood in Greece's capital.
    • Enjoy three nights of excellent Cretan hospitality at the Halepa Hotel in Chania, our 'feature stay' on this trip. This gorgeous neoclassical building was used as the British Embassy in the 1800s.
    • Take guided hikes through some of Greece most staggering landscapes, such as Santorini's famed caldera.
    • Discover the local history with included visits to the Thira Prehistoric Museum and the mythical archaeological sites of Delos Island and Knossos.
    • There's plenty of free time in Crete, Mykonos and Santorini to relax by the cool blue waters of the Mediterranean.
    • Stopover at a local tavern in the village of Vamos on Crete and enjoy a typical Greek moment with meze, a meal shared around the table, done for centuries by the locals. Clink glasses with the locals and wash it all down with the traditional local white spirit raki.
    • Enjoy a sunset picnic overlooking the caldera away from the crowds. Indulge in local cheese, ham and bread, all complimented by a local grape variety and a world-class view.

Everyone we'd spoken to who had been to Turkey raved about it. Now we do also. The Greek Islands were everything we expected and Crete was a place we'd definitely go back to.

The scenery is spectacular, the activities most enjoyable. Bring your sturdy walking shoes, suncream and hat. Plenty of free time too.

Turkey is an amazing country, so much to see and do. Whatever else you do, make sure that the Cappodocia area is top of the list. The fairy chimneys there are intriguing. The other thing not to miss is the Saratli Underground City. The Turkish people are friendly and helpful and I loved the food!

Good trip of archaeological sites of Greece. The island hopping part of trip had lots of free time to explore by yourself. That suited me for that part of trip only.

I enjoyed the tour and having multiple nights at the one location (hotel) made it easier. My only suggestion would be to spend more time on Grete and less on Mykonos. Grete was particularly beautiful both the scenery and the towns/villages (Hania a highlight). Also, more walking/hiking options - if possible.

A great way to see many of the major attractions of Greece, in good comfort and at a reasonable pace in a small intimate group.

I thoroughly enjoyed my travel with Peregrine. It was very well organised and the tour guide was great. There was enough free time to do, or see, things not on the itinerary. Because we were a small group there was no problem changing the itinerary. In fact, we were so pleased with our guide that we arranged to meet her for another day after we got back to Athens and were taken on a drive down the coast which she organised.

Peregrine Adventures

Our name stems from the word 'Peregrinate’, meaning to migrate, walk or take a pilgrimage – very fitting for our beginnings as a trekking company. Since our inception, we've broadened our horizons and now offer small group journeys in over 80 countries across all seven continents, which can be enjoyed by anyone with an enquiring mind who enjoys getting off the beaten track (without forgoing some of the comforts of home).

We are a company built by travellers for travellers. Take a walk around our offices and you’ll see the empty desks of people out on trips, or hear people swapping stories about a place they have just visited. Land at your destination and discover your tour leader is local to the region.

Wherever you travel with us we’ll take you to the major highlights as well as along the route less taken. This gets you closer to the local people and the culture you came to discover. We promise to share our knowledge and expertise with you, and ensure you will come home with stories you will tell for years to come.
