Overview

Book
Cycling is one of the very best ways to experience the diverse scenery and rural cultures of Southeast Asia, and continuing our tradition of pioneering cycle trips, this unique itinerary takes us from the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City through traditional rural villages to the iconic temple complex of Angkor Wat. Our comfortable modern bikes, support crew and steady pace mean that youa€™ll be free to enjoy the stunning scenery along the way, with our backup vehicle available to give tired riders a break at any time. Our journey begins in fast-paced Ho Chi Minh City, which we leave behind for quieter back roads to the Cu Chi Tunnels and on into the Mekong Delta region, the a€˜rice bowl of Vietnama€™. A vast wetland expanse of floating markets, Khmer pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies and flooded forests. Crossing through to Cambodia by boat, wea€™ll have time to absorb the palaces, pagodas and French inspired architecture of Phnom Penh before heading north toward Siem Reap, the gateway to Angkor. Discover the enchanting ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat by bike and experience stilted village life on the Tonle Sap, or Great Lake.

The most we had done before were one-day bike rides in Bali. But I am pleased to say, we did it! Now back to daily routine, I am so proud of what we achieved physically, coupled with a head full of amazing memories. Riding over bridges crossing tributaries of the Mekong (feeling like we were in the middle of nowhere) which proudly displayed funding from Australia through AUDAID puffed up our collective chests. The opportunity to attend a Caodai temple ceremony in Vietnam, and to actually participate in the annual Pchum Ben Buddhist ceremony, sitting down and sharing a meal in a small Cambodian community, were unique opportunities. A case of being in the right place at the right time.

Over our Spring break, a group of 18 high school students and 6 adults, took part in World Expeditions "Biking in Vietnam and Cambodia." The trip was seamless as World Expeditions did everything possible to guarantee asafe and life changing experience for some of the students. It was clear that through visiting many sites from "The American War" as well as delving into the history of the Khmer Rouge and the Pol Pot regime and visiting the stunning Angkor Complex, the adventure represented a tippingpoint for some members of the group. Seeing the countries on bike brought us closer to the people and allowed us to visit at a poet's pace. We are very thankful to World Expeditions and our on site guide, Mom Vannak, for providing the framework for such an enriching experience. They clearly know what they are doing.

I just wanted to pass on my sincere thanks to the World Expeditions Team for once again hosting an amazing cycling experience. This trip was a 10 year anniversary celebration for my wife and I and we loved the experience. Being a very small group I think the guides had some interesting and divergent challenges - particularly given one person in the group didn't realise how much cycling was involved. I would like to specifically pass on feedback in relation to the quality of your Guides - Chau and Ny Hol. They were both amazing guides, friendly, happy, accommodating and prepared to go out of their way to ensure each of us had an authentic experience. If you would please pass on to the SE Asian Team Leaders/Manager that manage both Chau and Ny Hol I would like them to be aware of the following - In regard to Chau - Stace and I found his enthusiasm for Vietnam and the local experience refreshing and assisted significantly in our engagement throughout the tour. He clearly loves what he does and this makes all the difference to our enjoyment too. Regarding Ny - We found Ny to be an amazing guide, in fact - as you were aware I specifically requested him and will do so again. Ny's local knowledge, passion for not only Cambodia but for the whole experience and his willingness to go out of his way to ensure everyone feels included is remarkable - he is an absolute asset to the team. His knowledge of the culture and history is second to none and it is clear that he actively seeks to es

We have just returned from the most fantastic cycling holiday from Ho Chi Minh to Angkor Wat.Our guides, Chao in Vietnam and Vannak in Cambodia, were absolutely fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. All the support staff were wonderful too. Generally the accommodation was good although we did have a few issues in some places with our triple room. We were a group of five friends travelling together. The food was delicious and plentiful and the places we visited amazing. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

The most memorable part of my holiday was in Cambodia to be riding bikes through Angkor Wat and in Vietnam to be riding backroads through villages.
