Overview

Book
Featuring miles upon miles of protected wilderness where little has changed since first appearing on the U.S. map, the Wild & Scenic Main Salmon River in Idaho offers a rich river experience including free-flowing Class III Idaho whitewater thats great for any age and experience level. This Idaho rafting adventure includes big sandy beaches perfect for camping and playing, beautiful mountain scenery, abundant wildlife and a natural hot spring. On the Main Salmon River, we run the full gamut of our river vessels so you can experience them all! Riding in an oar boat one day and a wooden dory the next, then challenging the whitewater hands-on in a paddle raft or inflatable kayak, ensures a diverse and exciting Idaho river adventure for each member of your party. Dubbed the River of No Return by early prospectors, the Salmon River is a river youll want to return to raft, again and again.

Idahos rivers access some of the most pristine terrain in all the state. They are home to abundant flora and fauna, an impressive network of hiking trails, and some of the countrys best whitewater. No river displays all these characteristics quite like the Main Salmon. Perhaps the most popular rafting trip in Idaho, and the main section of the longest undammed river in the mainland U.S., the Main Salmon offers a rich river experience. Free-flowing Class III whitewater thats great for any age and experience level, big sandy beaches perfect for camping and playing, beautiful mountain scenery, abundant wildlife, and a natural hot spring are among the hallmarks of the Main. The early river runners called the Salmon River the River of No Return because the rapids precluded upstream travel, but the Salmon is in fact a river youll want to return to time and again.

We were the last trip of the season. We lucked out with great weather. Our group was small, 6 clients, 3 guides. I think even the guides had fun. You were great in giving a credit for next year for our son who was hit by a car just before the trip we organized for him. Murphy. So you will see us again next year...hopefully all of us this time!

Running the Main Salmon with them was a great experience. The guides were fun, knowledgeable, experienced, and professional, giving us nudges when we needed them and support as appropriate. The pace of the trip was great, with the right amount of time to relax, but lots of action and a wide variety of boats/options to check out, which kept the experience fresh. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the food and we never went hungry. The beverage selection could have been a bit more diverse thought. I would definitely go on a trip again. The only thing I would do differently is ask a few more questions ahead of time to ensure I knew more of the options available to me for extra activities (and therefore could be more proactive about going on hikes and such).

Try to imagine camping and adventuring in the wind and rain, chilled to the bone on a river trip. Sound like a bummer? It was actually the best trip ever due to the experienced staff and their positive attitudes and sensitivity to the impact of the weather on our group. We found ways to celebrate the experiences through our chills, and then when the sun appeared half way through, we found we appreciated the trip even more. These folks know how to run an outdoor experience in ways that show they excel not only in the wilderness aspects but also in the human community aspects. We are already planning our trip for next year. If we had this much fun in inclement weather, imagine how much you would have in the sun!

"No man steps in the same river twice, for he is not the same man, it is not the same river." Every river trip is unique. The guides, the office staff, the pilots, the bus drivers, the food packers etc. were professional, courteous, and willing to go the extra mile no matter what it took! We have been on numerous rafting trips, but this was our first with them, I can guarantee it won't be our last! Thank you to you all for running a first rate trip and making our river time special.

There is nothing better then being on river time and being on the Middle Salmon made it that much more enjoyable. The staff did a great job of meeting our needs, for those who just wanted to sit, to those who wanted to paddle, and the more adventurous ones in our group who paddled in a kayak. If you ever get the opportunity, come to Idaho, and enjoy some fantastic water and beaches on the Middle Salmon

My wife and I are from the West but have lived in Philadelphia several years for graduate school. We were craving the rugged outdoor adventures unique to the West and an early season (high-water) trip on the Main Salmon was more than we could have hoped for. I've been down the Main before but I had never seen it like this. It was like a new river. There were rapids that only come out in high water that I had never been down before. The wildlife was great; we saw a beautiful bald eagle on the second day...incredible! The only downside to the high water was a bit more mosquitoes and lower temperature--not so good for swimming. But the sun got hot plenty of times to make a quick dip feel just right. This probably wouldn't be the best trip for younger kids (10 and under, I'd say) because of the cold water. Another pro would be the good hiking early in the season: slightly cooler temperatures and lots of wildflowers. If you're looking for high adventure or another trip down the Main, this is the one for you!
