Overview

Book
This gentle trekking holiday in Nepal will take you through the very heartland of the Sherpas of Mount Everest, beginning with the spectacular flight to Lukla, gateway to the Khumbu. Here, accompanied by our cheerful Sherpa team, we start our trek into a region of high valleys, remote settlements and ancient monasteries, overshadowed by the world's greatest peaks. During 8 days of trekking, we can experience the unrivalled mountain scenery of the Khumbu, enjoying classic mountain views including Mount Everest and Ama Dablam. Beyond the bustling Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar we take a quiet trail to the lesser visited village of Thame. Known as the 'second city of the Sherpas, here we can absorb the tranquillity of the oldest monastery in the region. We will visit the immaculate Thyangboche Monastery, where successive Everest Expeditions have received blessings for their climbs from the local Lama. Visiting a succession of Sherpa villages and monasteries overlooked by the snow peaks of the mighty Himalaya, the popular myth of 'Shangri La' will seem all-too-real. On our return to Kathmandu, we have a free day and a city tour, with the option of taking an early morning 'Mountain Flight' for a dramatic finale. Suitable for any weekend hillwalker, this short trek offers an excellent introduction to the delights of trekking in the Himalayas, including those all-important views of Mount Everest.

Highlights

    • Views of Everest and Ama Dablam from Thyangboche Monastery
    • Visit Thame Monastery, the oldest in the Khumbu
    • Spend a day in Namche Bazaar, capital of the Sherpas
    • Excellent Kathmandu hotels, including the Shanker and the Shangri-LA

The team leader was exceptional. He was humorous, knowledgeable, gracious, empathetic and great fun. He showed genuine concern for members of the team who suffered from various problems along the way and offered sound advice. I loved the people out in the countryside especially the children. To see people with so little being so happy was inspirational.

The Local Agent is outstanding. He is exceptionally helpful to the participants. He is also an expert photographer and has taken many great pictures for the participants. I believe he has significantly contributed to the success of the trip. Lhakpa is a wonderful trip leader and he is very attentive to the participants and the support staff. Lhakpa's English is outstanding and he has a great sense of humor. The porters are also terrific. They have provided us with great services. Most enjoyed - The view of Mount Everest and the landscape of Nepal.

A really excellent holiday and one we shall always remember with a great sense of achievement and satisfaction. Not an "easy" trek due to the altitude but the views and camaraderie ensure a truly wonderful experience. I most enjoyed:The clarity of the views, the friendliness of the lodges, the guides, the different culture and the achievement of completing the trek with little problem. Also,Hot showers and relaxing in the garden in The Malla Hotel! The local agent was very informative and the arrangements for joining and leaving in Kathmandu were spot on.Pasang was so informative and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. He paced the trek very well and ensured that we took regular drinks and rests and adjusted the pace and itinerary to suit us.

This was my first trek and made friends with my fellow trekkers. I have been unable to settle down at work since returning and want to get away again asap. I will definitely use your services again in the future.

This was the first holiday of this kind that we have booked and our first experience of KE. All enquiries/queries were dealt with quickly by helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant staff. We found the Malla hotel in Kathmandu to be clean, comfortable and very welcoming. Food was of good quality with a varied choice each day. The hotel has a lovely, well maintained garden and separate pool area which offer a haven of tranquillity from the crazy city traffic! All Lodges on the trek offered basic but clean and comfortable accommodation and always with a warm welcome. The food in the lodges exceeded all expectations. It was varied, hot, fresh and plentiful. The support crew were always attentive; showing concern for our welfare at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything ran with a quiet efficiency. The pace of the trek was just about perfect and the itinerary exceeded all expectations. From the moment we were greeted outside the airport by the local agent and our Sherpa everything ran smoothly. The transport was clean, comfortable and reliable. Overall the service was excellent. It was a pleasure and an experience to meet Phurba who was the trip leader. He was calm, patient and very caring; always checking if everyone was O.K. Nothing was too much trouble. He was very approachable and his vast knowledge of the environment and culture of his people was fascinating to listen to. We learnt so much from him and the support crew. This was planned as the holiday of a lifetime f

The trip leader was excellent on the trek . Very experienced and very good English and he was watching us all the time. His lead Sherpa was also excellent. Being a small group we were able to talk about Nepali life and see how things worked in the mountains (although the leader actually came from Darjeeling!), he was knowledgeable and very willing to discuss things with us. He was also very caring about the porters too which was good to know. I enjoyed the holiday and am glad i`ve done it as I`d wanted to go for sometime. It was great to see and be in the mountains and we were lucky with the weather , having clear days , if cold nights. But I did find the altitude made it quite challenging at times ... particularly going up to Namche but I coped. The walking wasn`t difficult, just doing the `ups` at the altitude....
