Overview

Whats your pleasure? The Tuolumne River, located just outside Yosemite National Park, is a standard-setter among all the California rafting experiences OARS offers. Pronounced too-all-uh-me, and affectionately referred to as the T, we have chosen it as one of our Seven Whitewater Wonders of the World. Options abound here. Theres a thrill-stacked one day Tuolumne River rafting trip, an adventurous 48-hour getaway with cool hikes up side canyons carved by cascading waterfalls, as well as a carefree three-day Tuolumne rafting vacation, with lots of time to explore and relax while reconnecting with nature. All three California rafting options take you to headwaters of the Tuolumne River which originate in the internationally renowned wilds of Yosemite National Park. A true wilderness trip on a Wild and Scenic river, the Tuolumne River spills 18 miles through a secluded river canyon roaring with whitewater. A Tuolumne rafting trip works perfectly into a California vacation to San Francisco, Napa Valley and the California coast.

The Tuolumne River is considered by many to be the best whitewater trip in California. Its pristine headwaters originate in Yosemite National Park, then surge through eighteen miles of non-stop, Class IV+ rapids. This incredible whitewater adventure includes intricate boulder gardens, rushing cascades and churning holes, which all combine for action-packed paddling from put-in to take-out.

The Wild & Scenic Tuolumne River flows through a beautiful wilderness canyon. The steep hills are lush green in the spring and golden-yellow in the summer, with oak and pine forests flanked by rocky terraces and sandy beaches. Early season wildflowers blanket the canyon in color. Tumbling creeks and glassy pools adorn the river corridor and its side canyons, creating the perfect outdoor experience for rafting, hiking, fishing and swimming.

What a thrill to spend 3 days on the Tuolumne! Leaving the freeways of Los Angeles to ride the whitewater and enjoy the out of doors is an experience I hope to repeat again and again. Highly recommended! We had fantastic guides in Chris, Jeffe, Billy, and Craig. And they were great teachers, cooks, and entertainers as well. From start to finish, a fantastic adventure. And George, thanks so much for riding with us, and getting the whole thing going. Three cheers for OARS! I hope to see you again soon.

It's been a month and I am still talking about this trip! I had such a great time last year, I went again this year! The guides were fantastic! I never doubted their skills. They made a city girl like me feel at home on the river and even made camping fun with the great food, and hospitality. This is truly the only guide company my boyfriend and I will use;he has been on quite a few trips. Thanks to Chris Moore, a true leader! Danny, Dave and of course Eli who was the captain of my raft. The water was great last year but even better this year. Woohoooo!

There is nothing I would change about this incredible 2-day early season trip on the Tuolumne, through OCSC Adventures. Our lead guide James was a consummate professional: skilled, knowledgeable, safety-minded, funny and accommodating of our requests. Crystal, Kate and Rio were also totally on top of things and made the entire experience fun and fulfilling. High quality gear, delicious & fresh food, great creature comforts, thorough training--everything we could ask for was done with excellence, quality and panache. Most importantly, we gained a powerful understanding of the river's natural and human history--and the need to keep up the campaign to protect it and the West's precious rivers. As a surfer and ocean swimmer, I would not have minded MORE CLASS V+ action... Like the cyborg said, "I'll be back!"

My wife, adult daughter and I had a terrific experience on this trip. The rapids were exciting, the guides very experienced and the food/wine were outstanding. My wife was not a big fan of whitewater since she grew up in the desert. After this trip, she is now planning another whitewater trip next year with OARS.........amazing transformation! You do have to camp out but sitting around the campsite at night enjoying fine wine and gourmet food is a hoot.

The scenery was beautiful, the guides were fantastic, the food was plentiful and delicious. The water was great, and the river thrilling. High rapids in early June, not for the faint of heart. I highly recommend this trip.

The guides on the river were tremendous in guiding my group of mid twenty year old guys through an exhillerating experience of Class IV rapids. The staff provided patient and informative assistance throughout the planning process including the adding and dropping of individuals a few dayts before the trip. Overall, an excellent experience.

The 2 and a half day trip down the Tuolumne River was perfect! The guides made us feel safe, yet kept the adventure level high and exciting. The best was the gourmet food and (way too much- is that possible!?!) wine. 5 star dining in the middle of nowhere? How does it get any better than that? The only disappointment was that the trip had to end.

Best vacation ever! Early spring rafting on "the T" was fantastic! Great group of guides (we rafted with the guide school), great people. The trip was well organized, the food was great, we learned cool things about the river and surrounding hills, played fun ! My friend and I couldn't have asked for a better time and we will talk about it for years to comegames, had a great evening program around the campfire and overall had a blast! We were sad when the trip came to an end...hopefully we can do it again sometime!

I used Oars to host a bachelor party. I am so happy I used Oars to host then adventure, they did a spectacular job. First, they're sales/planning team was incredibly helpful, taking calls, emailing, and stepping above and beyond a normal rafting company to help ensure that all lose ends of the trip were addressed. Once on the trip the guides were very experienced and quickly judged that we were up for an adventure and delivered an action packed trip. They had excellent equipment, food, and the perfect balance of fun and safety. I hope to repeat the trip again this year.

I loved the stories about other trips, and info about mining, river levels and humor. We were always laughing, except when John let me try to guide and I had no clue..there was silence out of respect for my frustration but I appreciated his comments and opportunity to try. Also I felt almost pampered. Especially when I decided to read on raft, guide brought me pillow and asked if I wanted a beer or anything else. It was great and I want to go back when water is higher. Thanks again OARS Billy, John and all made the trip totally FUN while giving us safety and ease.

OARS was a very professionaly run outfitter, I appreciate the great fun staff and organization. I did however feel that for the price paid the guests should not have had to do their own dishes. Having the "portable restroom" was a huge pro, great job! So far as OARS is concerned I would travel again with this company, so far as the trip itself... it was not as adventerous as I had hoped. I was not aware of all the downtime we would have each day. I spent more time walking up creeks than I did rafting, I paid OARS to take me rafting, not hiking... I can do that for free. Given, the hiking was special and memorable, but I'm not sure the trip needed to be three days and that expensive. The same amount of rafting could have been done in two days and less expensive. My only qualm is the trip itself and not knowing what I was getting myself in. I wish the descriptions would have explained how much time we would have off the water each day and in the canyon. OARS staff, lodging, food and fun atmosphere provided by the staff were wonderful though! Next time I would like to be able to read the descriptions and pick an appropriate trip for me though.

I highly recommend this river. The whitewater is excellent. The spring river flows superb. This trip has a "big water" feel that will bring a smile to your face from start to finish and leave you with wonderful memories. Great place to introduce your family to an overnight expedition trip. OARS always does it right.

Wine on the Water was a great way to the see the Tuolumne. Clear night skies and sleeping on the sand. Food was great, Boyle-MacDonald wine was great. Good mix of rafting and relaxing on the shore. For my first time in rapids it seemed fantastic, although veterans said it wasn't ideal water. Because of that our guide was able to take us into waves and lots of surfing. For a local foothill resident it was a great way to experience an area you don't really notice exists.

I have gone on a number of guided adventure trips. OARS definitely is one of the best. They are very professional and safe while still ensuring that all guests have a tremendous amount of fun. Our lead guide, Chris, was a wealth of information about the area we rafted and all the guides were very personal. I would recommend this trip to anyone.
