Overview

Book
Combine a South Fork American River rafting trip with a Middle Fork American River trip for the ultimate 2-day California rafting adventure through the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills in scenic gold country. Our South Fork & Middle Fork American River Combo, which begins on the fun Class III South Fork of the American River, then steps up to a day of aggressive paddling through action-packed Class IV whitewater on the Middle Fork of the American River offers more river miles than any other 2-day river rafting trip in the state.

This adventure combines two of Californias classic whitewater runs: the South Fork and the Middle Fork of the American River. The South Fork includes rapids which are challenging, yet not extreme. There is plenty of time to indulge in family or group bonding, playful joke telling, and spirited water fighting. The Class III South Fork is a great warm up for tackling the rapids on the even more exciting Class IV+ Middle Fork the following day!

Enjoy an evening of catered camping in between your days of rafting at the OARS American River Outpost. Our riverside-camp features hot showers and flush toilets. Bring your own camping gear or rent ours and relax in one of our great campsites. If sleeping on the ground just isnt your style, you might be interested in our pre-set platform tents, which are fully equipped to make your camping excursion both comfortable and relaxing. What a combo; what an adventure!

BOAT OPTIONS
Paddle RaftThe sportiest of crafts we put on the water, everybody handles a paddle while the guide steers and gives directions from the back of the boat. Paddling together is essential to finding the right run, and teamwork begets success. A thrilling way to brave the rapids! Helmets required. (Four to six paddlers)
Paddle Raft with Oar AssistThe most agile of any boat in the OARS fleet, your guide powers the raft with two hefty oars on a rear-mounted frame, while the crew wields single blade paddles up front for added horse-power. Helmets required. (Four to six paddlers)

WHITEWATER
The South Fork and Middle Forks Class III-IV+ rapids are the perfect 1-2 combination! Water levels sufficient for rafting on the two forks during the summer months are a result of releases from hydroelectric facilities located upstream. Such water releases are not subject to the control of El Dorado County or commercial rafting companies.

To increase your safety, we expect everyone to watch our 23-minute Whitewater Orientation video before joining us. Watch at https://www.oars.com/experience/safety/ or call 800-346-6277 to request a free DVD. Please dont leave home without watching.

There's always a group of us that do this trip almost every year and there hasn't been a time that we've been disappointed. The river guides are very knowledgable of the area and of the history. All the guides we've had have been fantastic, especially Dana and Eli. The meals were delicious, the river was great, our campsite was perfect, the weather hot....what more can you ask for!!! We'll be back again next year!

This was such a fantastic trip! I went with 7 of my closest people to celebrate my Dirty 30! The staff was beyond accomodating, super friendly, super funny, and just an all-around great group! Shout out to Dana, Collin, and Eli for being super awesome, taking care of business when we had a little double-booking of the campsite issue, and for making this a great weekend! As for the rafting portion, most of us were first-timers, so we wanted to do something not super freaky. Class III was honestly a little too lame for me. It was mostly periods of leisurely floating, watching Eli paddle, with intermittent and fun white water. We kind of were wishing it had been more white water with intermittent floating time. Either way, it was a great experience with amazing people, and I would highly recommend this trip to anyone that wants to test the waters. I will definitely be using OARS for my next white water adventure, and hopefully it will be somewhere crazy!

Great family trip with our boys, ages 9 & 10. .perfect level of rapids for adventurous kids! Our raft guide, Iowa, was awesome..a man who is truly passionate about what he does and shares his enthusiasm and joy for rafting. The food was outstanding and well catered to our needs (two picky kids and one adult vegan). We combined with an RV trip and stayed nearby at the Mother Lode River Center, which complemented this trip well. Overall a great experience!
