Overview

Book
Flying in to the Ladakhi capital of Leh, the shapely peak of Stok Kangri (6153m) is prominent on the southern skyline. During several days set aside for acclimatisation on this holiday, we visit the colourful monasteries at Shey, Thikse and Hemis before setting off on a delightful trek through the Markha Valley. Our route leads by way of several remote and picturesque villages to the high Nimaling Plain below the imposing peak of Kang Yatze. Trekking up to the Kongmaru La, we then take a little-used high-level route to Stok Kangri Basecamp, a 3-day approach to the mountain that includes superbly located campsites and far-reaching views towards Tibet and the eastern Karakoram. Although objectively very safe and technically straightforward, involving easy-angled scree and snow slopes, the climb on Stok Kangri is both challenging and interesting. This is a wonderfully varied trekking holiday, perfectly suited to someone seeking their first Himalayan summit.

Highlights

    • Stok Kangri an excellent introduction to Himalayan climbing
    • Markha Valley a superb acclimatisation trek
    • Explore Leh, the Indus Valley and its Buddhist monasteries
    • One of the top five trek and climb holidays in India

All information and advice I received via email or phone was full and very informative. I can not thank our leader enough for making the trip a once in a lifetime experience, and for passing on advice and knowledge during the three weeks.

The day in Agra was well worth the extra day. The trek towards the Nimaling Plain, and the walk from there towards the base of Kang Yatse were the best days' walking. It was good to be "in the mountains". I was impressed by the standard of the camp food - varied and good quality. An experienced leader who was also good company. Useful advice provided during a phone call to the office.

Great crew. The cook was outstanding! Great variety and wonderful cakes. Our leader was great. Nothing was too much trouble. He took a genuine interest in everyone's health and wellbeing throughout the trek.I suffered a bout of altitude sickness and a loss of appetite a couple of days into the trek but that didn't stop me from moving on with the rest of the group.I really enjoyed the stay in Leh before the trek began which coincided with the Ladakh festival. Also the trek through the Marka Valley and a great group of people and excellent leader.Unfortunately we didn't summit Stok Kangri due to adverse weather conditions. It must have been very difficult for Jose to make the final decision not to attempt the summit and I am sure many in the group were disappointed but I would fully support his decision and in any case it meant that we had an extra day in wonderful Leh before leaving for Delhi!I have been on several treks/climbs with you and have always had a great time. Very well organised with good itineraries and excellent leaders and support crews. Excellent trip, thanks.

Our guide is the best leader me or my Dad have ever had, out of a total of probably 20 trips with you and competitors. His overall enthusiasm, morale, knowledge, patience, skill and everything else was first class, and made that holiday, without doubt. Thanks, Stuart! Most enjoyed: Views, local culture, trekking through valley, improving my mountain knowledge via the guide

Excellent itinerary which met all expectations and allowed for really good acclimatisation. The support crew all worked well together and catered for all our needs always with a smile; I was impressed with the number of support crew/sherpas we had for the summit climb, allowing three groups each to go up at their own pace - giving everyone the opportunity to summit comfortably (which we all did).

Excellent trip! The itinerary said there would be long days and some of them were - I really enjoyed it though and found altitude quite challenging at times (as I expected). I had a fabulous time on the trip and would recommend this trip and you to friends and relatives.

Seamless is a word I will be using a lot. The guides are just the best. The head sirdar, is a great guy, wicked humour and tireless. The head cook its not often you come back from a trek heavier than you went !! how do you do ribs in batter at 4000 meters on three propane burners ! and crispy noodles with a fried egg on chilli vegetables just amazing. What can I say.. tireless, patient, encouraging, very skilled, her attention to detail was amazing, great local knowledge ! my best leader yet and I have helped run a couple of trips myself !! This was my first experience and I am now a total convert. Where other companies do ok, this was how it should be done. Again, that word seamless. It appeared effortless which means everybody is working really hard as a team to give that impression When running a remote trekking trip, it's always hard to tick all the boxes but with clever use of rest days and good management = 100 % success, which you did.

A bit of everything River rafting, high altitude road passes, monasteries (including the Dali Lama on our trip). Wonderful treks with great scenery, and finishing off with a 6000m summit. A great all round experience.
