Book
On this absolutely classic walking holiday you can challenge yourself to walk the complete GR20 Haute Route, on the beautiful Mediterranean Island of Corsica, one of the finest and hardest mountain walking routes in the whole of Europe; what a superb adventure! Rising abruptly from the Mediterranean Sea, with granite peaks soaring to over 2500m, Corsica is known as 'the Scented Isle'. Famous for its dramatic coastline and pretty, perched mountain villages, the island reveals its most spectacular scenery only to those who are prepared to explore it on foot. Over the course of a truly spectacular 2 weeks we will cover a total of 180km of mountainous terrain, with approx 12,000m altitude ascent and descent, as we trek the entire GR20 route, from the pretty village of Calenzana near the northern coast, all the way down to Conca, in the south east.

As we follow Corsica's granite backbone down through the heart of the island, we will encounter a variety of terrain, which means that everyday is a different challenge; whether it be hiking forested slopes, high pasture and alpine valleys or scrambling airy ridges and rocky outcrops. This unique European trekking holiday offers the perfect combination of Mediterranean sunshine, inspiring scenery and a challenging walking adventure; you'll be returning home with a real sense of achievement.

I've wanted to complete the GR20 for several years - the trek lived-up to all my expectations; good trek leader, some really great trekking companions, a beautiful country and some of the best cheese I've ever come across. I enjoyed the fact that I was pushed nearly every day, I didn't sign-up for a walk-in-the-park. Plus I've made some really good friends.

I particularly enjoyed the variety of terrain the trek covered. Also, the pace taken allowed us plenty of "free time" to relax and enjoy a drink at the end of each day. The trip was harder than expected, but within my capabilities. had not expected such a consistency of rugged terrain to ascend and descend. The toilet facilities were very primitive, far more so than in the Alps but I realise this is outside your responsibilities. I had been on a previous trek with another company but the food was insufficient. A friend, who has been on several KE expeditions, said they were always well provisioned. When I found you did the GR20 I was hooked!

I really enjoyed the scrambling sections and reaching the summit of Paglia Orbia - we had stunning views of almost the whole island. It was more difficult than I expected but this made it all the more interesting. My previous trip was Kilimanjaro which was very successful, so I assumed Corsica would be equally successful....and it was.

The trek was very challenging, but enjoyable. It was well run and the leader had a lot of local knowledge and was extremely informative - she made the trip very special.

The route is very varied (woodland, grassy plains, rocky ridges sometimes all in the same day) and that made it special. I like scrambling so really enjoyed the rocky/scrambly parts. We were able to take the Alpine variants (I think) on all occasions that there was a choice - it was great staying high in the mountains. The people - one usually meets a good crowd on these treks but this group was a particularly good team & great company. The guide set the tone and was a really good leader.

The physical challenge involved in walking the GR20 was the main reason for booking the holiday. Whilst it certainly delivered in that respect, the bonus was walking in such a beautiful mountainous region where the views were fantastic. Different to Nepal but in its own way just as satisfying. I would certainly recommend the GR20 to anyone who takes their hiking seriously. The holiday provided memories that will last a lifetime. Our guide was excellent. Her local knowledge with regard to the route, fresh water sources flora & wild life was 1st class. She was always on hand to deal with any problem that occurred en-route. She set a walking pace that was smooth & steady.

This was a challenging, exciting and adventurous trip. Stunning scenery, big mountain days and awesome sunrises combined to make this a truly memorable experience. The accommodation was great- a mixture of hotels, gites and shepherds huts which more than catered for a gluten intolerant diet. We took, and would echo, the advice to sleep in a tent where possible as this was by far the better option; better views, more comfort...and quieter! Our guide was outstanding; knowledgeable, patient and took the time to ensure that every trekkers needs were more than catered for throughout the trip.

GR20, despite being hyped up so much, is an epic adventure. It offers rugged mountains, forests, pools, lakes, and long long hikes. Be fit and have stamina and just enjoy it. The mountain huts have been recently improved, with better toilet and shower facilities, so you can have a shower at any hut. Food is hearty. There is a danger of wild fires in August. All in all, an epic hike, one of the few in Europe.
