Book
Combining a short 5-day trek along an ancient high-level route between Paro and Thimphu with visits to all of Bhutan's premier cultural sites, the Druk Path Trek is the perfect holiday for anyone looking for a complete and colourful experience in Bhutan; The Land of the Thunder Dragon.  After flying to Paro from the Kathmandu, we will receive a warm welcome from our Bhutanese guides before setting off to hike to the iconic gravity defying Taktsang 'Tiger's Nest' Monastery, one of the most iconic and important Buddhist sites in the entire Himalaya. Next, we begin our journey along the Druk Path where our first day of walking will take us from Paro up to a camp just below the Jeli La and its tiny hilltop Dzong. During the succeeding 4 days, we trek above the tree-line and cross several passes, including the Phume La (4210m), before descending down to Thimphu. En route, we camp beside clear mountain lakes and enjoy splendid panoramas of the snowy peaks on the border with Tibet, all whilst being taken great care of by our expert guides and our wonderful trek crew. Post trek we’ve time for sightseeing in Thimphu and in Punakha, including visits to the world’s largest seated golden Buddha (Great Buddha Dordenma), the Temple of the Divine Mad Monk (Chimi L’hakhang) and the intricately decorated Punakha Dzong, we'll even take time out watch some archery. Offering a challenging but accessible short trek, through a pristine landscape, and a real taster of Bhutanese culture, this popular holiday provides the perfect introduction to the unique, welcoming and utterly fascinating Kingdom of Bhutan.

This trip had a perfect balance of trekking off grid in stunning conditions and the unique culture of Bhutan. The hotel accommodation was very good and the trek support was excellent. Our guide, Tsewang, was really knowledgeable and made sure we had what we needed and were safe at all times. The Paro festival was like nothing I had seen before, a truly authentic experience and insight into Bhutanese customs and life. The colours were amazing!

This trip offered an excellent combination of some cultural highlights, as well as trekking. The trekking was well paced and most kit is carried by horses, so it is relatively straightforward. The guides are very well prepared and every aspect is thought of, from the food to medical care. The hotels were a good standard, with warm showers and comfortable rooms. And the Bhutanese people could not be more warm and welcoming.

We visited Bhutan in late September / early October to allow us to combine a festival and the Druk path. Overall we had a wonderful holiday in no small part due to the amazing local Bhutanese tour company who run it on behalf of KE. Our guides and the company management were everything you could want - genuinely interested in ensuring we had a good holiday, flexible, informative, inspiring during tough times and all with a great sense of humour. We were particularly struck by the spirituality of the country and its connection with the environment. Quiet moments of reflection in the dzongs and temples will stay with me for a long time and it was lovely to have some other members of the group who felt the same. Sunrise and sunsets were another highlight, particularly at the final campsite... and the food on the trek was great, better than the hotels we stayed in. Also I must pay particular thanks to the Bhutanese manager of the company who met us at the end of the trek. Our chat that afternoon gave me great insight into the country and its people. I also mentioned I was interested in archery and without hesitation he arranged an archery class for us for the next day which was a wonderful experience and great fun. As an honest review it's important to also mention where there were some frustrations - though for us these were relatively minor and would not put me off booking again. We found the ground agents in Kathmandu provided a less good service than those in Bhutan, but we w

I was asked to review this holiday by KE Adventure Travel and to "include any hints or tips for future travellers". My only tip would be - do it! If you're considering this trip, you obviously have a certain awareness of Bhutan but the country will exceed all your expectations. It's magical. As for the trip itself, it was excellently planned and organized and the local guide used by KE was fantastic - warm, knowledgeable, professional. Quite simply a wonderful experience.
