Overview

Book
Nepal's Khumbu region boasts some of the most extraordinary high mountain scenery on earth and its popularity as a trekking destination is easy to understand. Hiking up to Everest Basecamp and having the chance to meet the famously friendly Sherpa people is high on the wish list of many adventure travellers. After flying in to Lukla, this exciting trek to Everest Basecamp takes us via the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar and then up to the sacred lakes in the stunning Gokyo Valley. Here, we climb Gokyo Ri which is one of the finest vantage points for Mount Everest (8848m).

Continuing our journey to basecamp, we cross into the Khumbu Valley by way of the high and challenging Cho La (5420m). Then, from Lobuche, we trek up to Everest Basecamp and drop back to spend just a single night at the highest lodges in the Khumbu, at Gorak Shep (5140m). From here, we can ascend to the 'trekkers summit' of Kala Patar (5600m) for more superb views of Everest and of the astonishing Khumbu Icefall, before trekking out by way of the famous and recently restored monastery at Thyangboche. Staying in comfortable Sherpa lodges throughout, this circuit of the Everest National Park provides a comprehensive taste of the Khumbu that is hard to beat within a 3-week adventure holiday.

All the information supplied was accurate, and the staff very helpful. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food on the trek. Did not have a bad meal during the whole 3 weeks. The leader and his team really were excellent. Always smiling, always very knowledgeable and always very helpful, attentive and caring. A very enjoyable trip, and fulfilled all of the highlights expected.

The whole trip was absolutely brilliant, I think the fact that we had a local guide really helped in the enjoyment of the local culture, he was so approachable and so full of knowledge about the local area and culture, this made the trip for our group. Also the whole crew were always smiling and willing to have a laugh which really lifted spirits when the going got tough.

First time I have travelled with you and found the overall experience of dealing with them excellent. Always prompt and efficient. Trip contains all the info you need. Itinery was perfect and really pleased I opted for going to Gokyo as well. That is a wonderful place to be. We were blessed with amazing weather so everything on the scheduled itinary. Think we were really lucky to have Pasang as leader. He cares deeply about presenting Nepal and everything he knows about the people and culture. He was also very sensitive to the needs of everyone so they could all get the best out of the trip. A really great guy with a real sense of humour as well. The first time I have done a trip like this and the experience exceeded all my expectations and was much better than I had imagined. Had the expected health problems i.e. stomach not great for a few days but had the antibiotics. No real altitude problems. So the story is do the research, follow the advice, and take the precautions. Had a wonderful time. Combination of places, people and culture really made it a great experience.

Thank you - an excellent trip, great Sherpa's, great route with amazing views. Yes its hard work, yes 'simple and basic' lodges means that (!) but the effort is well rewarded. For me this was a return visit some 36 years after I first trekked to Everest Base Camp via Gokyo and the Cho La. Much has changed: more trekkers, lodges not camping and glacier melt but Nepal was and remains the world's best place to walk. Nepal needs trekkers

This trip is a great way to see Everest Basecamp avoiding the busy main trail for much of the trip. As ever, had a great itinerary, a great crew, fantastic guide and a very professionally run trip. The views are simply incredible, absolutely unforgettable and the trekking is great. Most days the trekking is fairly easy however be prepared for the added complication of having to deal with the effects of altitude which can make even the easiest days difficult. The ascent rate however is very sensible and most people should have only minor issues with altitude sickness. There are however a few very tough days, one that stands out is the crossing of the Cho La Pass which was tough given the ascent and the altitude that you are doing this at however the views from the top and the sense of achievement are more than worth it. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will get there in the end. The crew were very attentive and nobody is rushed while doing these harder days, go at your own pace, take plenty of breaks and keep drinking fluids! Overall this is a fantastic trip and I'd highly recommend!

We just came back from Nepal. This was an amazing trek through some breath-taking scenery. You will need a good fitness level to complete this trek - the trek is not technical at all but the altitude adds another level of difficulty. Some steps and treadmill training for a month pays off. Pasang Temba Sherpa (our team leader) and his team kept all spirits high and helped the whole group to complete the trek. All were very professional, caring and experienced guides. We only had to focus on walking and enjoy the Himalayas. The food on the trek was also really good and varied. The weather helped and we had clear skies and sunny days for most of our trip but I was happy to have some extra layers particularly when above the 4000m.

It was my 60th birthday year and this was the highlight. It was almost worth it just for the range of training walks we did together! Then we were off! From the amusing ridiculousness of Kathmandu domestic terminal onwards through landing at Lukla, prayer flags and wheels, yaks, stunning scenery, excellent Sherpa's led serenely and confidently by Phurbar, swaying bridges, energy giving plentiful boring food, woods, mountains, Everest, glaciers, passes, helicopter rescues (not our group), minor altitude sickness, endless stunning high peaks around us, the Sherpa memorials and the amazing difficulty of doing anything at over 5,000 m, this was the most memorable holiday we could have done. Sue found the toilets unimaginably disgusting and even from a blokes point of view they weren't good. Overall, we can't stop talking about it and we were pleased to have been in a group of 8 different and interesting personalities, 3 of us being 60 in 2016.

This was a wonderful experience all-around. A great combination of scenery, culture, challenge and comaraderie. I had a fantastic time, and I'm very grateful to our leader, and the team of Sherpa guides, not to mention the porters. All went way out of their way to make sure we had all the support we needed to accomplish our goals. The trip was a little bit tougher than I expected, but not much. I think the cumulative effect of daily dirt, cold, strain, altitude and more can wear you down a little over time. Lots of folks in the group had illnesses, mostly not serious. My recommendation to anyone doing this would be to train a fair bit in preparation, and do some research so you can come armed with whatever meds you might need. Overall, I could not recommend this trip more highly. I really like the way sets everything up so that participants don't have to worry about logistics, and can just enjoy the adventure. Well done!
