Overall Rating

Firstly, our guide (Olivera) and driver/ fixer (Marco) were both fantastic - very professional and they looked after us all very well. On the couple of occasions when Plan A didn't quite pan out (let's be honest, it happens) they quickly came up with a Plan B they satisfied all of the group. As always, we over-packed - we must try and follow the advice that says you should pack a few days before you go, and then the day before take 1/3 of the stuff out again. The weather was quite variable - it was September after all - and what my wife and I both really needed - and some of our more-experienced fellow travellers had - was a very (very) light-weight puffer-type jacket that would handily go over a tee-shirt. We both have that type of jacket now. Accommodation was varied - from the "charming" communist-era Hotel Kasina in Belgrade to the quaint and comfortable farm cabins in the Serbian hills to the charming small hotel in Sarajevo - but always adequate with a warm welcome from the locals. Local food was generally very good - excellent salads with the tomatoes particularly outstanding for some reason! Belgrade was fascinating and very much on a par with other European capitals. Sarajevo exceeded our wildest expectations - I've wanted to go to this city for over 40 yrs and it didn't disappoint. It was astounding to come across such a middle-eastern city in Europe, with the most cosmopolitan feel to it. Outside of the cities the towns and countryside were fascinating and very pic
