Overview

Book
This wide-ranging and exciting biking holiday begins at the world-famous Victoria Falls and finishes in Cape Town. After time to visit Africa's most impressive waterfall, we employ a sensible mix of vehicle transfers and cycling stages, as we bike from Zambia across Botswana by way of the Okavango Delta and the Kalahari Desert. An early highlight and an unforgettable experience, is riding alongside Botswana's shining white Magadigadi Saltpans.

We also have some time away from our bikes, to enjoy game drives in the Moremi Game Reserve. Additionally, shortly before entering Namibia, we spend a morning with the San (Bushman) people and learn a little of their self-sufficient lifestyle, before continuing our journey to the Namibian capital Windhoek. There follows a few days of wild cycling, as we cross the vast Namib Desert and visit the amazing sand dunes at Sossusvlei. Still heading south and following sections of the 'Long Way Down' route, our epic biking journey takes us to the awe-inspiring Fish River Canyon. Crossing into South Africa, we stop off to ride a loop into the spectacular Cederberg Mountains, as we make our approach to journey's end in Cape Town. This is a sustained biking expedition and the experience of a lifetime.

I liked pretty much all aspects, really. Obviously the cycling, but also the hiking and kayaking. We were super lucky with the weather, the evening meals were spectacular...what more can you ask? People should bring lots of energy bars, sports drinks and a laundry line. Oh...another thing, please recommend to customers to bring one roll of clingy wrap to wrap their cycles during the transfers on the trailer. This will save so much time and effort to clean the entire bike after every transfer. (There's a lot of sand on route)

The customer service prior the trip and the speed of reply was very good (via email and phone). The service team was fully informed about the trip. The trip information were also excellent and covered everything needed. All in all very good service, which I will use again. Tallis Wessels excelled at his job, especially at such a risky wilderness and extensive trip. He is by far the best group leader I had on trips so far. He was at all times in full control & in charge of the trip, organisation, safety procedures, knowledge about local wildlife and countries, cycling, bicycles, health. Yet he was very respectful and understanding of us clients. We quickly respected and liked throughout the group. What stood out was his is calm and professional approach which for an extreme trip through wilderness is extremely important as it gives you confidence and reassurance. He was always approachable a nd very tactful. He also has a very good memory, being around 10 clients 24hrs he remembers very well each individual's needs and what needs to be done for each client. He is also very good at timing and organising departures in a way that the daily schedule is met. This incl especially the cycling part. He had a good instinct how well each client was on the bike and how he would manage the timing and group of cycling. This is was excellent and very memorable holiday. I would welcome more trips of this length and challenge level.

The evening meals were great. I couldn't believe how tasty they were and always very filling which we needed for all the calories we burned each day. Both guides worked extremely hard throughout the trip. It seemed like they were always doing something - preparing meals; providing us information about the countries we were visiting, the animals we'd see along the road & stopping to allow us good views of the animals. I thought that the biking guide and team driver did a great job supporting the trip. The driver was a great part of the crew. He was always positive and had a smile on his face --- he wanted everyone to have a good time. He did a great job driving and was able to spot animals way before anyone else. I also enjoyed that he provided information about the places we were seeing and the animals.

The guides were great. They both had both had an excellent knowledge of flora and fauna. They both worked very hard for three straight weeks! Most Enjoyed - Camping in the game park Namibia! What a fantastic place!!!The whole trip exceeded my expectations. And I sure did not expect the high quality of the campgrounds!!

The guide was an excellent leader, with a good sense of humour and a lot to do. It required organsiation and energy to ride, fix bikes, load and unload the trailer, shop, cook and camp. Excellent bike mecahanic - quick and efficient and lots of helpful advice for the cycling conditions. Good route knowledge. Great knowledge of the country, the wildlife, culture and people. What I enjoyed the most - A sense of travelling from point A to point B. Chobe river, the safari, camping in Moreami seeing animals in the wild. The group. The scenery. Good mix of cycling and other activities.

Impressive customer service - helpful office staff who offered a really personalised and friendly service, responding to any query I had. Best group holiday I've been on. Laughed and learnt a lot. I most enjoyed the combination of overland and cycling. Safari (very lucky with lion sightings), views of the Okavango, relaxing in pools/hit springs, braiis. We had the best tour leader I've ever had - Had safety first, Professional and customer-centric, Boundless energy and passion for his role, Clearly knowledgeable about the culture and wildlife and able to share that with the group, Impressive and inspiring problem solving skills, Resilient, Sensitive to the health and well being of group members and Diplomatic. Further comments: Exceptional guesthouse in Cape Town; lovely to have the option to upgrade to a room when camping now and again. Good sized tents, zips a bit temperamental at times! Impressive catering (particularly evening braais). Very obliging support driver who went above and beyond. Itinerary suited me well as a first timer to Southern Africa.
