Overview

Book
This trip weaves together China’s most famous icons. Walk an original section of the great wall and revel in the big show of Beijing. A city within a city of incredible scale and detail awaits, as well as serenely set palaces of sublime beauty and construction, and the full panoply of China’s people. A short high speed train ride away, in Xian, the famous Terracotta Warriors fascinate for their evocative detail, while a walk of the wider city finds us deep in the rarely seen exotica of the Muslim Quarter. The narrow streets, colourful markets and quiet mosques are surviving remnants of Silk Road caravan days. In Chengdu, observe the unique giant pandas in their struggle for survival. Relax on a Yangzi River cruise through the beautiful mountains above the Three Gorges dam, passing by picturesque rural villages still reliant on China’s most vibrant waterway. Travel to Yangshuo where the karst hills stand in the mist of Li River, serene and beatiful landscape immortalised by so many painters in generations. Shanghai’s bright lights, fevered trade and frenetic pace provide a glimpse into modern China and the dazzling global future and a palm sweating acrobatic show await for us here. TRIP UPDATES FOR 2019: From 1st January 2019 this trip will be 17 days in length and begin in Beijing, finishing in Shanghai. It will also include Yangshuo.

Good trip but unless company chances it thoughts on the Sleeper Train, be aware that you will more than likely be completely tired and you will lose half of the next day.

Trip was as described online. Know that China does control Internet site access, though it is available at every hotel we stayed in. No Google product access, including Gmail. No Facebook, Messenger so be prepared to communicate with family, friends in other ways. For instance, my wireless carrier iMessage worked fine. Pick pockets are clever. They can unzip purses or backpacks without your feeling it. Belts or neck pouches best. Leave second card, extra money locked in safe at hotel. Getting replacement card or money wired is not fast. Be sure to be prepared for stomach upsets, due to difference in foods, spices, etc. Toilet facilities less than desirable outside hotels. Day trips can be long & tiring. Rest when necessary on free time.

This was an excellent trip taking in the key major sights of China to fulfil the experience in one go. The trip was packed with activities, never a dull moment. The guide was highly experienced allowing you to gain far more local information than you could from any guide book.

A wonderful cultural experience visiting some of the major tourist attractions in China. Something not to be missed is the Changjiang Three Gorges Large-scaled Landscape Live-action Show whilst on the Yangtze Cruise, absolutely amazing and beyond expectations. If you enjoy lots of walking and travelling through busy railway stations with your luggage, eating local food then this is the tour for you. We loved being part of this local experience, something you would not have in a large group.

Be prepared to be blown away by some of most iconic sights in China. It's a full on itinerary with very little time to catch your breath, but thoroughly rewarding and made even more memorable by the new friendships you make along the way! Top tip: Travel Light

This was a great trip. We visited all the places we wanted and many places we had never heard about. Taking some of the optional activities is a must. The outdoor shows in Yangshuo and from the Yangzi Cruise were absolutely amazing.

Our guide was excellent! His diligence and insights into contemporary Chinese culture made the trip! Be prepared for a lot of cities, some great inclusions and worthwhile optional extras too. The day trip to Zhouzhang should definitely be cut in favour of another day elsewhere, but apart from that the itinerary was well-paced. Transport and accommodation were a good standard, and the tour ran extremely smoothly.

Yangtze and Beyond provided a fascinating introduction to China that incorporated vast cities, as well as the beautiful scenery of the Three Gorges and the Great Wall of China. We covered a lot of ground but the cruise in the middle of the trip was an opportunity to take it easy. The tour leader was very warm and inclusive, ensuring that everyone got the most our of their holiday. She took us to very nice restaurants with ambiance and tasty, fresh food. We learnt a lot about China and had some good entertainment in the evenings, particularly the Shanghai acrobatics. The trip included a lot of iconic sights in Beijing, as well as the terracotta warriors and city wall in Xi'an.

This trip is very varied both in cultural experiences, transport and sights to see. Travellers need to be willing to be flexible in order to get the best out of the holiday as there are so many different things to do and see demanding constant changes in environment and venue and early morning or night visits.
